The foundation of Six Sigma comes from the implementation of statistical techniques to production control developed after the invention of mass production at the starting of the 1900s. The official Six Sigma method for professional  use  was launched in the 1980s as a data-centric, organized methodology allowing analysis of the performance  of the process and provide an improvement  over existing  processes with a goal to reduce defects so that fewer than  3.4 defective parts per million are produced at any kind of processes
