Hello foodlovers

I tried to bake my own bagels for the first time. And I think they were quite good.

What you need to six bagels is:

500 g flour.

50 g yeast

2,5 dl water

1 tablespoon honey.

2 teaspoon salt

25 g butter.

For the boiling of the bagels.

100 g sugar

2 litre water.

How to make them:

Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water, and then add the flour and honey and then knead the dough. Then add the salt and butter and knead the dough.

Then let the dough raise for 40 minutes.

Then divide the dough in six pieces and form the six pieces of dough into buns. Then press through the middle of the bun with your thumb. Make sure the hole in the middle of the bun is big if the holes are too small, they are going to vanish as the dough raises. About fifth diacentimeter is good.

Then the bagels have to raise again for 30 minutes.

Then mix the water and sugar, and let the water boil. When the sugar is dissolved, you can put the bagels into the water. One at the time. Let the bagels boil in the water for one minute on each side. Use slotted spoon to put them in the water and out of the water.

If you want some sunflower seeds or sesame seeds on the bagels, then dip the bagels in some seeds after they boiled. Then put them on a baking tray.

And now are they ready for the oven. Preheat the oven to 200 C (180 C if it’s a fan oven). When the oven is hot, then put the bagels in the oven for about 15 minutes.
