Upcoming Adaptations

Vulture reveals the 22 book-to-film adaptations coming up in the second half of the year.  The list includes Tim Burton’s adaption of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, as well as films of Middle School:  The Worst Years of My Life, and A Monster Calls, based on the book by Patrick Ness.

Burton’s take on the book by Ransom Riggs has already been the subject of some controversy, as it has been revealed there will be some changes in regards to the powers possessed by the peculiar children.  This article from Page to Premiere includes a comment from Riggs about the changes made in the movie.

It appears that Patrick Ness will also see his Chaos Walking Trilogy hit the silver screen.  Not only is Doug Liman attached to direct, but Den of Geek reports that Star Wars star Daisy Ridley is on board to play the female lead.  The series takes place in a world where living creatures can hear each other’s thoughts.

Meanwhile, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are teaming up once again.  The duo behind The O.C. and Gossip Girl will adapt Sarah Pinborough’s novel 13 Minutes into a film for Netflix, according to theFandom.net.  The story is about a popular high school student who is revived after being dead for 13 minutes, and her former best friend who tries to solve the case.

Io9 reports that Dave Roman’s comic Astronaut Academy has been optioned for film and television.  Roman cites The Goonies, Time Bandits and Buffy the Vampire Slayer as inspirations for his work.

The adaption of Lauren Oliver’s novel Before I fall has a release date.  Deadline reports that the story of a girl stuck reliving the last day of her life will hit theatres on April 7th.   Zoey Deutch will the play the lead role.

It looks like the fourth book of The Chronicles of Narnia will get the silver screen treatment, though Io9 reports that producer Mark Gordon is trying to sell the project as a new franchise.  Which I guess means that there will be a new cast, even though they are just moving on to the next book after the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which opened back in 2010.  So, I’m not really sure if this qualifies as a reboot of the series.
