Keith Urban is a multiple Grammy Award winner from New Zealand. He is a singer, songwriter and record producer who released his first album in 1991 and has been in this business for about three decades.

Urban has at least 18 number one singles on the US Hot Country Songs Chart and has released 11 studio albums. His well-known singles include, “ Somebody Like You “, “ But for The Grace of God”, “Break on Me” and “ Wasted Time".

Early Life 

Keith was born to Marienne and Robert Urban on 26th October, 1967 in New Zealand. He lived with his parents in Queensland, Australia where his father owned a convenience store.

His music talent was obvious as a child but it really started growing when his father hired a guitar teacher to give him music lessons. Urban caught on very fast and was good enough to start competing at local competitions. After taking part in the Australian TV talent show “New Faces” in 1983, Urban began to get more involved in the Australian Country music scene. He was part of a band called “Kids Country” and they performed regularly during schools holidays.

Career and Professional Life

In 1990, Keith signed a record deal with EMI Australia and in 1991, released a self-titled album " Keith Urban ".

He moved to Nashville, Tennessee in the United States in 1992, despite the success of his first album in Australia.

In America, Keith got involved in song writing and received credits on songs for Raybon Brothers, 4 Runner and Toby Keith.

In 1997, he teamed up with Peter Clarke and Jerry Flowers to form a band named “The Ranch” and they released a self-titled album for Capitol Records, Nashville. Their album charted two singles on the Hot Country Songs Chart.

Keith Urban went solo in 1999 and released his self-titled American debut album. The album was very successful and Urban made history by becoming the first male New Zealand performer to reach Top 10 on US Country Charts. He achieved his first number 1 hit “ But for the Grace of God “ with this album . This album also brought in awards with Urban winning the 2001 Academy of Country Music Awards for Top New Male Vocalist and others.

Urban has 11 studio albums to his credit in a career spanning about three decades.

Keith is married to actress Nicole Kidman and they have two kids together. They have been married since June 2005. Nicole is an Australian actress and they met at a Hollywood event promoting Australian in 2005.
