Pretty Little Liars Review: Season 7 Claims its First Victim

So Pretty Little Liars is back after a somewhat slower episode, and it really did deliver on some solid drama followed by a killer ending.

The scheming was a lot more well-planned in this episode than we've seen from the liars. The scene with Aria returning the key into the wrong light was a nice tidbit to catch on to, and I was genuinely nervous watching Spencer and Hanna try to stall him.

The scenes with Alison and Elliot were so over the top and ridiculous. I guess I just wasn't a huge fan of him as a character, but things got a lot more interesting when Spencer and Hanna ran into that scary little girl. Her telling Spencer and Hanna that Charlotte and Elliot were a couple wasn't that shocking, but it provided some movement to the episode, so I was happy.

Let's just get to the ending, which was the fact that the liars killed Elliot. Honestly, after I saw the title of the episode, I assumed it would be Elliot they were burying. I wish they had a couple other characters involved in these scenes because it would have provided a little more suspense. After seeing Elliot being so blatantly a villain, I knew he was going to be done after this episode. Also, I wished his death wasn't just some freak accident, but maybe that's the horror movie fan in me. Don't get me wrong, I like that they're adding this layer of the show, but it definitely could have been done a little better. The ending scene was very well-done as we get a full view of Elliot's body and Alison slowly walking in front of the car.

For an episode that was focused on scheming, there is a lot of relationship stuff to delve through. Hanna isn't telling the girls about Jordan, and I'm guessing it has a lot to do with Caleb. Hanna seemed really on edge throughout the episode. I was surprised that once Aria told Hanna about Ezra, that she still wouldn't say she broke up with Jordan. The Hanna and Spencer scene was super awkward and probably made Hanna want to keep the Jordan secret even more hidden.

Spencer and Caleb's scenes were heartbreaking because we know that Spencer feels way more love for Caleb than he does about her. Caleb and Hanna are very much in denial, while Spencer becomes a lot more realistic. Throw in Toby's engagement and we have a very sad episode for Spencer.

Speaking of Toby's engagement, Emily stopped by during their engagement party and gave him some files. Honestly, if I were in Yvonne's shoes, I'd also be weary of all the scheming. She's a pretty understanding girlfriend.

On Emily's radar this season is Sabrina. I was a little surprised that Emily fought so hard for Sabrina especially after seeing how cold she was toward Emily at The Brew. I think she's just a filler girlfriend for Emily at this point.

I'm excited for next week. I'm excited for Mona to return because I love her character, but I'm also glad we're getting Jenna back. Also, we'll finally see the liars deal with something pretty big with Elliot's death.
