Out of all the cities on our Italy trip, Rome was by far my favorite. It’s like the New York of Italy; there is so much to see and do. It is a more modern city, yet retains an “old-world” vibe. Walking down a block, you pass buildings and houses built in different centuries. It’s such a unique experience to see the contrast in the architectural styles. Our trip was further enhanced by our amazing tour guide. He explained the history (and in some cases drama) behind the construction of certain buildings and major attractions. Also, he made us aware to notice the little details. For example, to notice the different crests and the presence of Mary Motifs on practically every building. Such things that would have gone unnoticed. It was interesting to learn that only pagan sites converted to churches survived/were preserved by the ancient Romans.
