I say my black is beautiful
Not to gloat or offend
I acknowledge that the world is full of colors
Each shining beautifully between each spectrum end
But so often humans who come in darker shades
Are ignored or pushed aside
We are taught not to love ourselves
And taught that in self hatred we must hide
As I mature as a black woman
I come in contact with my truth
There is nothing in my genetics
That makes me any less of a human than you
So in a world that often treats these words
As senseless taboo
Let me shout out very clearly
That being black is beautiful
