What's In My Make-Up Bag?

What's In My Make-Up Bag?

Everyone likes a cheeky look inside someone's make-up bag, and in today's post I'm going to let you have an illustrated look through my own make-up bag essentials. Now as I've mentioned before, I'm extremely low-maintenance when it comes to make-up, and I don't like having to touch up all the time or faff about with products when I'm at work or out and about. However, I do like having a select few products on me at all times to be able to refresh my look, or in case of any emergencies. I've also included some useful extras at the end for those of you who have different preferences, so stay tuned!

The MAC Prep + Prime BB Compact is an essential in my bag, partly because I never use it when it's in my main collection at home, and partly because it's fantastic for touching up concealer. It's incredibly creamy with a buildable coverage, which makes it great for under the eyes as well as on top of blemishes or redness from the cold weather. However, it definitely needs setting with a powder, and the one I'm using at the moment is the Rimmel Clear Complexion Clarifying Powder. This is a fool-proof product because you can never overdo it all over the face or in more concentrated areas like underneath the eyes. My main base essential though has to be the Vitamin E Refreshing Toning Mist. This is the cheapest facial mist I've come across that works like a charm and I can't recommend it highly enough. It has a light scent that the whole line at Superdrug smells of, and all you need is two or three pumps to make your skin look healthy, hydrated and fresh. I use it on top of make-up all the time and it really locks everything in place - I never leave home without it!

One of my all time favourite products has got to be the Revlon Highlighting Palette 'Bronze Glow' . This nifty little palette (which I forgot to colour in) has 5 really pretty shades that work individually as well as together. I love using this as a blusher/bronzer hybrid for a natural look with a little glow, but I adore using them individually as eye shadows too. You can build them up to look quite intense with some mascara and eyeliner, or sheer them out for a slight pop of colour on a no make-up day. This has saved my skin many times before! Speaking of eyeliners, the only one I always need on me is the Black Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliner. You can smudge this out if you want to or just leave it on the tightline and/or waterline for a simple but striking look that doesn't end up all over your face.

In terms of lips I always make sure I have at least one lip balm on me at all times. The one I'm loving at the moment is the Nature's Ingredients Shea Lip Balm which you can get from Marks & Spencer. It smells really nice and is so easy to just throw on and leave, although it's not the most long-lasting so I do change it up depending on how much hydration my lips need. I always carry whatever lip product I'm wearing on the day with me, but I also keep a lipstick that I can take from day to night (or that just fits any occasion) in there too just in case. My favourite has to be the No 7 Moisture Drench Lipstick in 'Shiny Conker'.

And to accompany your various products you may need a brush or two. I tend to keep a powder brush, some kind of facial blending brush for either blusher or bronzer, and maybe two eye shadow brushes - one angled for liner if I need it, and one that's either for blending or packing the shadow onto the lid.

Mascara isn't something I ever reapply once it's been put on in the morning, but I know some people like to touch it up - especially if they're going out after work. I've been keeping my Benefit Tinted Lash Primer in my bag because I never reach for brown mascara otherwise, and I've found that this is a nice one for when you want to define your eyes a bit more for everyday. I'm even less concerned about my eyebrows, but I will admit that a nifty brow gel has come in handy once or twice. This is a sample size of the Benefit Ready, Set, Brow Gel but normally I'll use something way cheaper as long as it doesn't flake. I also find having a clear nail polish is useful for unexpected ladders that pop up as annoying threats in my tights every now and again, but if I'm wearing a darker shade of nail polish I'll sometimes throw the bottle in just in case it chips right before an occasion. At the moment I'm loving the Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish in 'Black Cherries'.

The Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster is another one I'd never have in here if I didn't have a small sample size of it knocking about. However it has opened my eyes to the necessity of having something in my make-up bag that hydrates my skin in a more long-term way compared to a toning mist. I have oily skin but in the cold weather I do get a few random dry patches on my nose and chin, and this is useful to apply on top of make-up to sort out any flakiness. It's a very thin, almost liquid, gel that absorbs really quickly. However once I've used this up I'll be looking into serum or a primer type product to do the job.

And lastly I find having some face wipes to hand are so useful for an entire plethora of emergencies and situations. These are the new Garnier Skin Active Oil-Infused Micellar Cleansing Wipes which I do quite like - I haven't had them long enough to form a proper opinion yet, but they smell good and have been quite effective so far.

And so concludes the look through my make-up bag. I hope you enjoyed it and maybe found some additions to your own collection. Have you got any recommendations? Let me know!
