Who doesn't love saving up on some bucks? Finding the perfect foundation is a struggle in itself. And then paying a bomb for it?! Literally drains you out mentally and financially. With the dwindling bank balance and loyalty to food (and clothes), and a special mix of skin color that makes it impossible to find the perfect drugstore foundation, it is a HUGE deal when you finally find the one.
Being an Indian, I am blessed with a yellow under-toned skin and pigmentation. And the majority of the brands that cater to these also cost a lot. It's a battle really! I've spent hours and hours over a period of two years trying the same things over and again hoping I will miraculously turn into a pink under-toned girl. Most of the foundation products (liquid, cream, powder) have a warm under tone to it, actually no let me correct that, All of the foundation products have it, whereas me and the majority of Asians (which basically is majority of the population) and other mixed race skins have cool undertones.
Wearing Morgan Taylor "tan my hide" on the nails
Last month, when I attended the Nyx Arabia Face Awards (I was among the top 20 incase you missed out on that one), they were generous enough to give us a goodie bag full of their products and that's when I came across this product, Nyx HD Foundation. A couple of days later, I finally tried it on, and I was really surprised to see that it wasn't a pink, peach, orange or beige undertone which most drugstore brands ignore for some reason.
Although it was a shade light for my skin (I used "soft beige"), which didn't bother me much 'cause I could always balance it out with the contouring, and mainly because, hello! I found a yellow toned affordable foundation! It basically meant party. A few months ago, I had tried their stay matte but not flat liquid foundation which is also cool undertoned, but it made my dry skin very patchy. Ive been using the same in powder version (in "03") for a couple of years now on daily basis. So deep down I guess I did have some hope to find the perfect one from Nyx.
The Nyx High Definition Foundation, is definitely a must have. Apart from the correct undertone, it's a very light formula which literally feels like nothing on the skin and stays for hours! It has a light to medium build with a satin finish, so it works with dry or oily skin types and perfect for the summers. I have a combination skin type with extremely dry face and a super oily T-zone. And believe it or not, I wore it over the weekend and woke up the next morning (yes, i slept in my makeup, it rarely happens, but please don't do that!) looking exactly the same as I did when I had a fresh face. The makeup didn't budge or cake up. Super impressed. Unfortunately, I was in a super hurry and couldn't gather myself to click any high quality good photos, so here are a few iPhone selfies of the makeup, clicked 6 hours after application.
I also used the same in my previous look - Yellow liner | Summer look. I'm definitely looking forward to trying out more products from their face range and hoping they will soon open a stand alone store!
Nyx HD Foundation "soft beige", $18.00, can be purchased at any Lifestyle store, local resellers or their official website.
I hope this post has answered all your prayers as it has for me.
