BMW G 310 R 2020 First Ride Impressions

You see, the world’s largest two-wheeler market has witnessed this shift thanks to the sentiment of the consumers, and in the right direction too, as the riders are moving towards high-performance machines and not just picking up no-frills commuters as their latest addition to their respective garages.

Therefore, manufacturers, too, are taking advantage of the situation by introducing a truckload of motorcycles at a budget with meaty performance.

Talking about the G 310 R in particular, it didn’t emerge as the nicest roadster in its class. It had its few niggles and what some would say, was not worthy of carrying the BMW moniker.

Moreover, the manufacturer had not cut any costs in making this motorcycle cheaper, as the BS-VI version is now tech-laden and it looks like a proper BMW machine. And yes, like a BMW bikes should be, the 2020 BS-VI G 310 R is extremely desirable.

The bike we had on test was finished in this new ‘Style Sport’ shade, and it carried a blend of matte grey along with white in some places and red highlights all over the place, which easily makes this shade our pick of the range.

A neat addition to the overall look is an aggressive full LED headlamp replacing the halogen-powered reflector from the older bike, which alone makes it look contemporary and modern. Other electronic updates to the entry-level roadster from BMW include a slipper clutch and ride-by-wire throttle, latter of which has certainly improved the throttle response from the BS-VI powered engine.

Just like before, it comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The transition to cleaner norms sure has made the power delivery livelier and the engine creamer, as there are fewer vibrations compared to the older model.

Since it’s a roadster, handling also plays a big part in the overall package. And, rest assured, BMW has made sure its entry-level roadster remains to be nimble and agile, as it tackles corners with ease.

The ride quality also remains to be quite stellar with this generation of the G 310 R. It rounds off bumps very well and stays composed to the road despite the road conditions. In this regard, of course, the GS should perform better, but the R is no slouch either. The seating position here is not outright sporty, but this means the BMW is extremely comfortable for the rider and you can push this bike without taking any fatigue to your spine. It just offers the perfect blend of sportiness and comfort.

So, you must have noticed that we concluded almost nothing negative about the BMW G 310 R 2020. Plus, BMW has sorted out all of its niggles with the BS-VI update, and most of all, it has dropped the price of the bike making it even more affordable than its outright rival. So, I don’t see any reason why this BMW should not be the next addition to your garage.
