Brooklyn-based artist Kate Steciw’s sculptural and photographic collage pieces take fragmented pieces of color and images from the internet and “interrogate the relationship between reality and virtual representation, splicing together a disparate group of objects that mirror how internet is consumed;”. Her artworks are primarily made up of images inspired from events in popular culture. However, when taken out of context they are perceived as abstract mosaics fit for the contemporary gallery. Steciw has stated that she aims to “move beyond the 2D and exist in 3 and even 4D spaces or implied spaces but also juxtapose the mundane or expected with the altered or intangible,” using a variety of different materials including things as diverse as glass beads, stickers, car ornaments, and bandages.
