Fighting The Fear

Shame. Why should we feel ashamed of who we are as people? Why is it okay for others to shame us? Why is it okay to shame ourselves? It's not. So many people are hesitant to talk from fear of being called an "attention seeker", or mocked, of being unheard. But it's okay to talk. There are people who will listen. Mental health problems can affect the way you think and feel and shouldn't be treated with a stigma. 1 in 4 people are affected by a mental health problem and they shouldn't be anything to be ashamed of. I was ashamed. I wanted to hide it away from the world and pretend like it didn't exist, but that nearly killed me from the inside out. I have been briefly sectioned under the mental heaimg_0107lth act back in January 2016 for my own and others safety, because I wasn't in the right mind to make decisions for myself. But I met a ton of absolutely amazing people that I still keep in contact with. We met in our most vulnerable states and stuck together through it, to fight it. Together. We could understand each other on a level no one else could. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there. And just because you're not dealing with a mental health condition now, doesn't mean you, or someone you love, never will. 1/4. You don't have to understand it, just acknowledge that it exists, and respect that it affects people's lives all over the world. Mental health can affect anyone.The day I decided to give up, was just the beginning. And I have come SOO far from that day; each day keeps getting brighter and brighter, and I love my life more each and every day. Whilst I still have bad days, I can ignore what isn't real and move past it. It's OKAY to NOT ALWAYS be OKAY, and not enough people know that. I am not my disorder.  And I will speak openly about it because I can, and if there is anything I can say to make someone feel they aren't alone or help out just one person in this world, it will all be worth it. Please don't hesitate to talk to someone about it, don't let it get out of your control, don't let it ruin your life. This is your life. Be you, be free. My name is Brittany, and I am NOT ashamed.
