While you may take the initiative to save the environment thereby, recycle and reuse to the maximum extent but it is not enough as you need to encourage more people to do the same hence why not influence your neighbors and do efforts to reduce waste and conserve energy? Here are a few tips;

1. Form a Committee:

The starting step would be to form a committee of members who would be willing to take the responsibility of designing waste reduction and management ideas that need to be implemented, educate the occupant about it and help in implementing the policies.

2. Reduce Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Energy Wastage:

Get free energy audits from energy suppliers and encourage the up-gradation of appliances to meet a high energy-star efficiency rating, especially for heavy appliances such as the HVAC so that the energy wastage is minimized.

You also need to replace all the building lights with LEDs which are highly energy-efficient and long-lasting. It is also important to educate the tenants regarding the steps in which they can save energy in their houses every day.

3. Reduce Waste and Recycle:

Implementing a recycling program in the building is a great way to reduce landfill space. Encourage the tenants to segregate recycling waste separately in the dedicated recycling bin set up on each floor and clearly marked. You also need to motivate the tenants to generate lesser waste, to begin with.

4. Encourage Reuse:

You need to encourage the building members to reuse as much as they can to reduce waste generation. Some simple examples are to use both sides of the paper to print, use reusable mug and plates, arrange for donation camps to give away items which tenants no longer need.

5. Conserve Water:

Commercial buildings use a significant amount of water due to multiple tenants living in the building, hence you need to aim to conserve water by checking the faucets regularly for any leakage, installing low-flow technology faucets to reduce water wastage and reducing the outdoor water use in the building will help in conserving water.

6. Go Green:

The use of renewable and sustainable sources of energy in the building should be encouraged so that the consumption of fossil fuel can be reduced. Solar heating panels should be installed as it is a renewable source of energy and environmentally friendly. You can also get a pellet boiler installed which uses wood pellets as the fuel which is a sustainable source of energy with high calorific value if the wood pellets are of high quality purchased from dkbrænde

7. Use Smart Devices:

Using technology to conserve energy is a great way to give back to nature hence use motion-activated sensors in passages, lifts, lobby and other common areas which will help to save a lot of electricity as the power will be turned off automatically when not needed.

Conclusion:

Once the waste reduction and management program for your building is in place, spread the word in the neighborhood so that more buildings are encouraged to implement similar measures. Such collaborative measure is a small step towards saving the environment from degrading.
