Hi, everyone. Hope you’re all doing great. I want to, first of all, apologize for my 2 weeks hiatus from blogging. Stress took its toll on me hence my short hiatus but it’s good to be back.
As the days elapse, one thing that terrifies me about life is its unpredictability. You just can’t tell what would happen in the next second, minute, hour, day, week, month or even year. We all have great dreams and aspirations but we can’t predict how they’d come to fruition. A prophet tells you you’d be great but as the years go by, you can’t see any sign of greatness and you sometimes fret and wonder how it would pan out. I’ve come to find solace in the saying that “I don’t know what tomorrow holds but I know who holds tomorrow” and that person is God.
I call Him the chief architect and here is why. One day, King Saul disobeyed God and was rejected by God. This hurt the prophet Samuel who anointed Saul as King and he went into a state of mourning. So one day, God told Samuel to stop mourning and go to Bethlehem, to a man named Jesse for he has chosen one of his sons to be king. Samuel went to Bethlehem as he was told.
When he reached Jesse’s house, he attempted anointing Eliab, one of Jesse’s sons because of his physical appearance but God rejected him. Jesse brought his other 2 sons that were available but the Lord rejected them. But there was one person left, in the person of David who was tending his father’s sheep. He was sent for and when he arrived, God said to Samuel “This is the one- anoint him!!”.
If we were in the shoes of David, we’d be wondering how this would be possible because in the first place, David is not from a royal family and he’s just an ordinary shepherd. David who was anointed to be king went back to his Shepherding duties while God the great architect was doing what he does best.
After David was anointed, the LORD’S spirit left Saul, and an evil spirit sent from the LORD tormented him. Upon realizing this, Saul’s servants alerted him and asked for permission to go search for a man who could play a harp to assuage his demon possessed condition. Saul then ordered them to search for a man who could play a harp very well. One of his servants recommended David and Saul sent for David to be brought to him. When David was brought before Saul, he gained favor with him and was chosen by Saul to carry his weapons. Saul then sent a message to David’s father saying “I like David. Let him stay here in my service”. From then on, whenever the evil spirit came upon Saul, David would get his harp and play it. The evil spirit would leave and Saul would feel better again. In the long run, David became king.
Everybody was created to accomplish an impactful mission in life. Our creator which is God is the one who gave us the various dreams we have but most at times, we are tempted to think, the accomplishment of this mission is solely our mission. In the first place, David wasn’t qualified in the sight of men, to merit being selected for any good thing. If not, he would have been among the ones selected by his father to come before the Prophet Samuel. The Prophet had to ask Jesse whether there is no other son before David was revealed to him.
The big debate likely to rear its head is; HOW CAN A SHEPHERD BOY FROM A LAY MAN’S FAMILY BECOME KING?
God had to allow an evil spirit to possess Saul and use David’s skill of playing a harp as an antidote. How can a simple activity such as playing a harp be an antidote for a spiritual condition? You see, David stood no chance of finding himself in the Kings palace because his services weren’t required there. God had to create a problem and use David as the solution for him to come into the palace where he is anointed to dwell. It wouldn’t have been enough for David to be in the palace but he had to learn the tenets of being a king and since he never came from a royal family there was no way he could learn this. God had to bring him closer to the throne so he could learn the art of rulership directly from the King. What better way could this have panned out than putting David at the feet of the King?
David hadn’t begun his duties yet but immediately Saul set his eyes on him, God made sure he fell in love with David and David became one of his armor bearers. An armor bearer is an officer selected by kings and generals because of his bravery, not only to bear their armor but also to stand by them in time of danger. Before David was brought, Saul was told he was a brave man but how on earth could a king give his weapons to a shepherd boy at first sight without testing him? This technically means Saul immediately trusted David with his life upon seeing him for the first time. This doesn’t even make human sense but since God is the chief architect, he made it happen.
You see, we didn’t send God to create us in the first place. Neither did we tell him what we wanted to do on earth. He just decided to create us and put a dream in our heart to accomplish it. If that’s the case, why should we worry about how a dream God himself gave us would come to pass? If he sent us on earth without our approval, then it means he is under obligation to see whatever dream he put in us, through to the end. Otherwise, it would be an indictment on his integrity. No wonder He had to make sure, David got to the palace where his purpose was.
If you’re out there worrying about how you’d accomplish your purpose on earth, just keep calm because it isn’t about you, but about the person that gave you that purpose. Just keep on doing what you’re currently equipped to do just like how David went about peacefully doing his shepherding job. At the right time, God would create a problem that requires your solution which would catapult you to where your purpose is. He is the great architect.
Just as in the words of Habakkuk “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry”.
