Tuesday, November 8, was historic! Everyone expected Hillary Clinton to win and become the next president of our country. She would have been the first female president of the United States of America. Unfortunately, she did not win and this left so many people in shock.
Election night was pretty intense. I don’t think a lot of people were really going to tune in as much because many believed that Hillary Clinton had the win, no matter what. Things changed as soon as people noticed that the numbers were off and Donald Trump might have a chance. At that point, people were glued to their televisions and watched with hope that Donald Trump would not win.
Donald Trump was not quite nice throughout his campaign. He did say a lot of hurtful things, which made people dislike him. He insulted people and scared people. I don’t believe that the way he handled himself throughout his campaign was appropriate, especially for the type of job he was running for. As for Hillary Clinton, she handled herself great. She was kind to everyone and she didn’t scare people like Donald Trump did.
A president is a leader, who is an example for many people. A president is supposed to be kind and bring everyone together. A president is supposed to make you feel safe and important. If you are going to run for president, act like one from the very beginning even if you have yet to hold the title. Donald Trump’s behavior from the very beginning was far from a lot of these things. This initially made people not want to vote for him and led people to believe that there was no way he could win. How can someone vote for him with that type of behavior, right?
This time around, a lot of people had a hard time with this election. There were quite a few people that didn’t want to vote for either candidate. You want to trust the person you are voting for and some people had a hard time trusting both candidates. People didn’t trust Donald Trump because of his outrageous behavior. People didn’t trust Hillary Clinton because of the whole email scandal. Some were left wondering if she was hiding something from them. They each did things throughout their campaigns, which resulted in trust being lost.
At the end of the day, a president is needed and they are the options. People wanted Hillary Clinton to win because from the beginning, she was acting like a president and she has experience. Donald Trump did not act like a president throughout his campaign and many felt that he lacked experience. In this case, you have to go with the person who can drive a little better.
Everyone really did believe that Hillary Clinton was going to win. At times, it just seemed so obvious and I think she felt very positive about winning. I do believe that at moments, Donald Trump thought he was going to lose. I think those voting for him felt the same way. He would often tell us that the system is rigged; therefore, letting us know that Hillary Clinton could win and he may lose because of that. I wonder if he still believes that the system is rigged, now that he has won. He still might believe that it is or maybe he doesn’t anymore.
Well, everyone got it wrong this time. A lot of people did vote for Donald Trump. As the numbers rolled in Tuesday night, many were pretty shocked to find out that Donald Trump was in the lead. It was intense and you couldn’t stop watching. People thought they knew who was going to win and at one point, numbers were showing that either one could take it, but Donald Trump might be the one taking it.
I do believe that there may have been people that lied about voting for Hillary Clinton. If you said that you were voting for Donald Trump, you were criticized and hated. In order to avoid trouble, sometimes you join everyone else, which is sad because it shouldn’t be that way. We have to respect each other’s choices. I think, when asked, some people may have just said that they were voting for her so they could avoid trouble and voted for him once the day came.
I strongly believe that a lot of the people that voted for him know that the way he handled himself was not appropriate. However, they desire the change he will bring and for that reason, they voted for him. People are quick to judge and instantly assume that if you vote for him, you must be like him. There are people out there that voted for him and are not okay with some of the things he has said.
Donald Trump will be the next president and he is set to begin on January 20, 2017. It is something that many need to accept, which may take some time. I think everyone needs to give him a chance. When it was official that he had won, he gave a speech, which allowed many of us to see another side of him. It was good and he was nice. He said nice things about Hillary Clinton and he talked about bringing us all together. Hopefully we see more of this side, rather than the side we saw during his campaign. No one is perfect; we should give each other a shot and see where things go.
Hillary Clinton also gave a speech, which was great. I’m sure it must have not been easy for her to do. She lost and anytime when you work hard on something and you lose, it sucks. She also feels that we need to give Donald Trump a chance. At one point, she said, “We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.” She even told everyone that she offered to work him, which would be great. It is time to move forward and really have an open mind as Hillary Clinton said.
It is what it is, but if you feel like there’s something else that can still be done to change the outcome of the election, then go for it. Exercise your rights, but do everything peacefully. Protests are currently happening right now. People are expressing themselves and letting it be known that they don’t want Donald Trump as president. A few of these protests have turned into riots, which is not okay. Do things the right way! People have gotten hurt and businesses have been vandalized. A lot of people protesting right now are being mean and not exercising their rights the proper way. Michelle Obama once said, “When they go low, we go high.” Remember to always go high! Don’t join those going low!
