Do you ever have days when you just feel “blah?”

Yesterday I was experiencing a case of the “blahs.” I wasn’t truly sad or upset about anything, just feeling a little off…in a bit of a funk…sort of “meh” (uninterested, or indifferent) and unmotivated.

We all have days where we have to drag ourselves out of bed and, for lack of a better way to describe it, just feel “blah.”  Days when you just feel a bit off, unsettled, irritated. Times and occasions where you feel drained or unmotivated. 

You will have good and not so good days. It is very normal to have off-days when you just can't be bothered to do anything. Sometimes, if we've been working hard, we need down time to just relax and recharge.  And, that's okay.

As women we strive to nurture others while juggling challenging careers, demanding relationships, and hectic households... These are days when my soul needs strengthening. 

There are many reasons why you may feel less than inspired about life, from high stress levels at work to a poor diet or lack of exercise, but the good news is that you don’t have to let it ruin your day. Here are a few simple ways to boost your mood and kick that sluggish feeling in no time at all. bored

On days like these I not only have to do some of the natural things like eating right or exercise to give me a boost.... I also have to tap into Someone greater than myself to strengthen my soul.

The Holy Spirit is the great Encourager. When I rely on the Holy Spirit a peace comes over me giving me a sense of direction that ignites and motivates my faith to move forward. 

Here are a few simple ways to boost your mood when you feel a little “blah.”

Spend time alone. Research suggests that quiet time–solitude and silence–can be therapeutic in the noisy world we live in. Try to find time in the early morning, late evening, or during afternoon breaks to just sit and listen to the silence for that "still small voice, “gentle whisper.” psalm-121-2This is a perfect time for a warm cup of coffee or tea, your Bible, a journal, or to meditate on a daily verse. A life of worship gives us the added benefit of direction and strength to face each day, no matter what comes our way.  

De-clutter your soul. As you sit quietly, listen to what’s going on in your heart. What recurring theme pops into your mind? What’s things, worry, disappointment, regret, or memory is disturbing your peace? Recognize it, acknowledge it, do what you can to fix it, repent of it if you must, and then give it to God and move on! Don’t let “noise” keep you from thinking on “things above.” Colossians 3:2

Rest. We weren’t created to run, run, run. What comes up must come down. After the adrenaline of the holidays you must take a good nap or go to bed early. Jesus extends an invitation to rest in Matthew 11:28-30, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”  The Message Bible 


Pray. Did you know that simply talking to God and sharing your burdens, disappointments, frustrations, and ambitions with Him is more beneficial than telling them to a friend? Plus, God can actually intervene and do something about all you share…and He’ll never betray your confidence or reveal your inmost secrets. There aren’t too many friends that you can trust like that. He cares for you, “casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
