The Faithfulness of God

The Faithfulness of God

We know that a characteristic of God is that He is faithful. Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”  It is simply believing in something that you cannot see.  There are many passages throughout the Biblical text that deal with faith and faithfulness.  We know that a characteristic of God is that He is faithful.

The Israelites were promised a land flowing with milk and honey if they lived by faith and move ahead to possess the land God had promised them.  In some ways my journey has been similar to the children of Israel coming out of Egypt.  Egypt represented a place of oppression and slavery for the children of Israel.  Because of the Lord's love and faithfulness, He bought them out with a mighty hand. "But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt." Deuteronomy 7:8 (NIV)

The Israelites had to overcome the giants in the land to continue on their journey to reach the Promised Land.  The giants struck fear in the hearts of the Israelites causing some of them to draw back.

On this journey we may experience discouragement, fear, impatience, and unbelief similar to the children of Israel as we walk this walk of faith and encounter giants in the land.

I still face obstacles as I pursue what God has called me to. But I have been willing to move ahead in spite of the obstacles. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

Scripture says, "Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and southPsalm 107:2-3

This has truly been a journey of faith and seeing the faithfulness of God over the past 20 odd years  God is always faith, even when we are not faithful. God cannot deny Himself even when we are unfaithful. I would like to share a few Scriptures that have encouraged me in my faith walk.

God knows the plans He has for you and He is faithful to bring them to pass as you stay on the course He has set for you.

I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you. You will seek me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13

God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9

During this journey you may be tempted to give up, quick or stray from the path God has ordained, yet there is no temptation that can keep you from your God given destiny.  When you are tempted God will provide a way for you to endure the temptation if you hold on.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10.23

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. 2 Thessalonians 3:3

If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. 2 Timothy 2:13

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Psalm 36:5

Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11

But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4

Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. Psalm 119:90

There are many Scriptures written that express God’s faithfulness to His children.  My favorite and one that I always lean toward as I travel this journey is found in the Book of Joshua chapter 1. Joshua was chosen to take the children of Israel into the Promised Land after the death of Moses.  The Lord said to Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

A faithful minister of Christ on your behalf speaking the truth in Love!
