What do you do when the brook dries up? When the mortgage, electric, cell phone, health insurance, medical bills, college tuition, etc. need to be paid and there is not enough to meet the need. Think about your own person difficulties, finances, people/relationships, health, family, job conditions, whatever it may be. Pressure builds up, problems develop, many of them without seeming solutions. You wonder why your world seems to be falling apart.
Are you willing to trust God’s promises and provision no matter how contrary your ideas may be in comparison with His provision seems? There’s a fascinating story in 1 Kings 17:4-7 about the prophet Elijah. Elijah was instructed by God during a drought that he prayed for to go to the brook of Cherith. God commanded the ravens to feed him there. In verse 4, God promised to supply Elijah’s needs while at the brook. Elijah obeyed the Lord and the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and he drank from the brook.
Why is God’s provision sometimes just barely enough?
Obeying God doesn’t mean the brook won’t dry up. Elijah was to put His trust in God, not the brook. When the brook dried up God instructed Elijah to go to Zarephath and stay there. When he arrived at the town gate a poor, desolate widow was there gathering sticks. Elijah called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” Really!! That doesn’t make much sense. Yet, God will take the foolish things to confound the wise.
When it looks as though things have dried up, finances, relationships, health, job, etc. the Lord’s presence is always with you. This challenge might be maturing your faith so that you learn to solely rely on Him alone. God promises to supply all of our needs according to His riches and glory.
We’ve all been in a place where the brook dried up and God moved us on to another place. If we only believe, God will do the same for us. God can take care of you when the hard times come. In Philippians 4:19 the Apostle Paul said, “…my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” When your brook dries up, listen for the voice of the Lord. There is no limit to what the Lord can do!
Miracles still happen today!
