School Day Reads

It's that time of year again. The time of year when everyone is getting ready to head back to school. From young ages in the daycares all the way through colleges, people are preparing to head back. Since I no longer attend school I definitely think of all the things I used to have to do to get ready. The supplies I had to buy, the clothes I planned on wearing, etc. There was so much planning and stress, but in the end...not a big deal.

This stress was definitely at it's peak in college when I was trying to afford textbooks (because those prices are absurd) and trying to acquire books for the various lit classes (children's and adult's) that I would have to take. It's kind of nice to not have that stress this year. My biggest stress is to try to figure out where I need to be for my first day back at work on Thursday. And as I am sitting here, relaxing and not stressing (well, not about going back to school) I started to think of all the books I had never read until college.

Required reading was always hit or miss for me in high school. Sometimes I felt I wasn't quite ready for the book, other times I felt like I just needed to figure it out on my own instead of with a class and at their pace...there are so many ways that it didn't necessarily work for me. And yes, there were books that fit that description in college as well (because I only had a week to read each book guys. It was crazy), but at the same time I discovered some truly amazing books that have stuck with me ever since. I am thankful for these college courses and that they introduced me to some powerful books. Even though it's been awhile since I have read them, I still remember the feelings I had upon finishing each and every book. Feelings of gained knowledge, of empowerment, of wanting to do anything to help someone. So many good feelings and emotions. So today, I am just going to share a short list of some of those favorites with you, ranging from adult to children's literature.

What are some books you remember reading in school that have really stuck with you?
