How to Increase Storage Space at Home

Somehow, in almost every home there is never enough storage space. Even if there was in the beginning, after a certain amount of time things spontaneously start to clutter all over the place. However, there are always a few ways to solve this without having to renovate or remodel.

Multitasking furniture

When you are lacking space, a great idea is to invest in furnishings that, besides looking great also provide you with some extra storage space. Now, there are literally countless options – from ottomans, over tables with drawers, all the way to freestanding cabinets, small chests and trunks. You can use these items to store your magazines, books, games, extra linens etc.

And yes, even though we are in the era of e-reading and reduced need for book storage, there are still many of us who enjoy the smell and overall feeling of reading a real book. Bookcases can make a great storage option, and not just for books. Many of these units come with drawer inserts, doors, hidden and open parts, or even a built-in window seat (you can also make this by yourself if you are feeling a little bit crafty).

Functional accents

Things such as lidded jars, baskets or decorative bowls make a great decoration for your table, shelf or a window. However, these items can also be ideal for storing your keys, remote controls, pet supplies and many other small items that are hard to keep a track of.

Use the unused

When you have limited storage space, you need to think outside the box (pun intended). There are many ways to use your furniture items to create so much more storage space. For example, you can raise your bed frame a few inches and use that space to store seasonal linens or clothes that are in plastic containers. Next, you can use the space under your kids’ bed to store games as well as bulky toys. You can also install a few hooks on or behind your doors and make the unused space in your deep cabinet accessible with plastic totes on wheels.

Built-in wardrobes

For the bedroom, one of the best solutions for more storage space as well as extra room space is definitely a built-in wardrobe. Consider investing in a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe in which you will be able to fit all of your clothes and some extra stuff. Also, make sure you get the one with sliding doors to maximize the space-saving factor. If you’re an Aussie, you’re lucky because you can find a huge variety of these wardrobes in Brisbane and make any room in your home way more stylish and functional.

When it comes to additional storage space – think vertical. For example, you can use your bulletin board to store your necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings – since they usually tangle when you store them horizontally. Similarly, save your drawer space by using special hangers for storing scarves, ties and belts.

In-the-wall bathroom cabinet

Similarly to the bedroom and its built-in wardrobe solution, bathrooms are usually cluttered and lacking storage space. This is why cabinets that are installed inside the wall are a great solution. When installing it, make sure you choose a spot with no electrical cables or plumbing pipes in the wall such as the wall opposite to the toilet or the wall behind the door. Also, don’t worry about the price, because these cabinets are not that expensive – you can find one for not more than 40 dollars.

As you can see, creating more storage space in your home is not that hard. You just need to be creative and think outside the box.
