The Importance of Quality Flooring in Construction

Nov 27, 2017, 2:32:36 AM Life and Styles

Floors are equally important as any other part of the house. So, why is it that the majority of homeowners give them the least attention during construction? Let’s face it, while planning a house construction, most people are concerned about wall insulation, doors, windows, and any other part of the house that is not the floor.

However, a case can be made about the floors being the most important aspect of every home and building. A quality flooring will not only improve the looks of your home, but it will improve the quality of living as well. If you want to learn more about the importance of quality flooring in construction, then let’s not waste any more time, and get right into it.

Insulation

First, walls and roofs are not the only things that need insulation. If you put in the extra padding beneath your floorboard, you will improve the overall insulation in your house by a lot. Sure, the majority of heat escapes through walls and windows but, if not insulated properly, the floor can be equally draining.

Furthermore, heat insulation is not the only concern. We all know how unbearable it is when you hear your neighbours’ footsteps, and that is all because of bad sound insulation in floors. By adding an extra layer of floor insulation, you will not only get a warmer home, but you will also cancel out most of the noise coming from beneath you.

Durability

If you’re looking for a cheap flooring solution, then don’t expect it to last you for a long time. Sure, you might save some money upfront, but that will all come back to bite you in the end. Hardwood floors are on the expensive side for a reason. They look better, create better insulation, and most importantly, they last a lot longer.

However, if you want to maximise your floor durability, then you will also need to improve the framework. Usually, people go for timber hobs, but there is a better alternative. Prefab permanent formwork is a great way to reduce costs and give an extra support to your floors. Unlike conventional hobs and formwork, these pre-fabricated ones will not bend and you will be able to install them with ease. After you’ve placed the hobs, you just need to fill them with concrete. Additionally, there is no need to remove them after the concrete is set.

Aesthetics

Finally, let’s talk about aesthetics. Cheap floors are not only less durable, but they also look disappointing. Sure, the easiest solution is to cover them with rugs. However, if you wish to keep your floor rug-free, then you need to install a real hardwood floor.

The most important thing that you need to do is decide on the type of wood. Red Oak, White Oak, Walnut, and Maple are just some of the many options you will get to choose from. They are perfect if you want to achieve a more traditional look, as well as if you want to match them with your furniture that is also made of hardwood.

We can talk about floors for hours, but unfortunately, we need to end this article. As you can see, quality flooring is nothing to scuff off. If not for aesthetics, then you should at least consider installing quality floors for better heat and sound insulation. Furthermore, if you don’t want to change your floors in the near future, then be prepared to lose a little bit more money upfront. However, you will profit in a long run.
