A morning routine and certain things you should or should not do can be the reason you have an amazing day or an unorganised, stressful day. It has even been suggested that certain morning habits actually make you smarter and perform better at work. Here are morning rituals you need to begin, even if this means waking up a little earlier than usual - don't worry you'll get used to it and feel amazing for it. 

  • Tidy up.
    This doesn't have to mean a full-blown cleaning session, but making sure to make your bed, wash some dishes, and just have fairly clean and tidy surroundings allows you to clear the clutter and mess from your mind and enjoy the rest of the day with less stress. 
     
  • Lemon Water
    This is super easy to make - just a few drops of lemon and some water and you have a new morning habit. This wakes you up, freshens your breath, has tonnes of vitamins and can stop hunger cravings. You might even want to opt for this instead of coffee. 
     
  • Have goals
    I always write my to-do list down on a little post-it note which includes all the things I want to achieve by the end of the day. This can even include really minor objectives such as 'do the laundry'. This not only serves as a reminder but can also be a rewarding experience. It puts your day into perspective and can motivate you right from the morning. 
     
  • Exercise 
    This can be yoga, cardio, strength or whatever you're feeling that day. This can relieve anxiety and stress, can help wake you up and also keeps your body in shape. Even just going for a ten minute morning jog could make you feel so much better. 
     
  • Meditate 
    This is seen as a very important step for morning routines. Giving yourself time to relax, breath and think is a super important habit. Never underestimate the importance of being relaxed and stress-free, it can make the world of a difference. 
     
  • Eat something healthy
    A lot of people avoid breakfast, it is no lie that it is the most important meal of the day, but a bit of avocado on toast or some yoghurt with fruit pieces or even just a piece of fruit will make you less hungry later on in the day.   

    Try to avoid checking your emails or work based things as soon as you wake up - there's nothing so important that it can't wait 30 minutes to read.
