As a young 20’ something, I have learnt so much in a short space of time, and there is still so much to learn along the way! I feel that there are some valueable life lessons that I have personally experienced that I would like to share with you if you are going through your 20’s right now!

Don’t stress about finding your purpose (get to know yourself first)
I will be honest, as soon as I finished university, I wanted so desperately  to find my “purpose”; “what is it that I am truly meant to be doing with my life?” I would ask. It would get to the point where I would get annoyed at myself for not knowing what I wanted to do and not having a direction for my future. A few years later, I have learnt to relax and realise that finding your “purpose” is no way near as important as understanding who you are and what you like and don’t like. This has really helped me to feel relaxed within myself and to cultivate self-confidence when it comes to having a direction in my life.

Save, save, save
This is a time where one can no longer just rely on your parents and family for financial support. It’s a time to take ownership of yourself and your finances because that will dramatically impact your future. Instead of spending on things you don’t necessarily need, have a goal of how much you will save each month and what you can do without.

Get good at “adulting”
Being in your early 20’s can present a few challenges; the first being you are now officially an adult. I must admit, the transition is a murky one as we may still feel as though we are young and carefree, yet we may also feel the pressures from the wider world to become an “adult” and be “responsible”.  Becoming responsible for yourself is probably the most gratifying feeling because you know you can hold your own.

Take risks and do crazy stuff now
When we are in our 20s, we are in the prime time of our lives, and it is the time to do the things you want to do and make mistakes whilst you are young. Go travel the world if that’s what you truly want to do. Go start that business you have always dreamt of starting, or move to a different country. Take some time out if you feel the need. Whatever feels right, go with that!

Do what you enjoy and get good at it

Do what you enjoy. It’s as simple as that. We worry so much about finding a job, and keeping a job, and the majority of the time people hate their job in the end. It’s a vicious cycle, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You know, people in their 30s, 40s, and even up to 50s have done jobs they hate, and have looked back on their lives and said, “I wish I did what I truly wanted to do, I wish I went for it!” being in your 20s has its advantages: time. Don’t waste these years doing pointless stuff, go for your dreams! I would also like to add, that when choosing a career path, get real good at it and the rest will follow!

These are the 5 habits that I have learnt along the way in my 20s and I feel that it may be of value to you if you are in your 20s. I am still learning along the way, and I would love to know your take on this! Do you have any pieces of advice to share, feel free to comment below as I would love to know your thoughts!
