A Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is a synonym of ‘comfy’ travel. SUVs make the bumpy rides bearable and somehow manage to provide you comfort when you travel on the ‘potholes containing some road’.

When it comes to SUVs, mostly the name Innova pops up in our head. Or BMW X5, if you have big pockets! But there are some SUVs which are not popular but still have superb quality and deliver competitive performance. Here are five such SUVs which you should take a look at if you’re planning to buy one:

  1. Mahindra TUV300

‘Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd’ is one of the largest vehicle manufacturing companies in India. Yet when this 73-year-old company launched one of its finest SUVs, Mahindra TUV300, it almost went unnoticed. It is safe to say that this car is an improved version of Bolero, another Mahindra vehicle. It’s not a prized possession when it comes to looks, but its box-like design provides nice headroom and comfortable seating.

Mahindra claims that it gives you a mileage of 18.49 km-pl with its diesel variant. That is okay considering the engine is good 1493 cc and the power is (max) 100bph at 3750rpm. It is rich in interiors, and the cost range is from 8.31 lakhs to 10.91 lakhs. The cool part is, there are two variants available: 5-seater and 7-seater.

  • Tata Hexa

There is a famous quote,“Invest in Reliance but work with Tata.” Because for Tata, quality and customer satisfaction matter more than profits. When one of the most reliable companies launched its SUV, it somehow didn’t create the buzz that it should have. Tata Hexa has a huge engine of 2179 cc which can generate a power of 153.86bhp at 4000rpm. This beast gives you a mileage of around 17.6 km-pl. Tata Hexa isn’t bad to the eye either and comes in the price range of 12.49 lakhs to 18.06 lakhs.

  • Skoda Kodiaq

This one stands out in the list when it comes to looks and features, but you would require a significant budget to park it in your garage. Standing tall at 34.84 lakhs, this SUV is a pure beauty and something which you would rarely see on the road. It has a 1968cc engine, and Skoda claims it gives you an average of 16.25 km-pl. It is huge on safety and contains nine airbags, multi-collision braking system, and a fatigue alert system.

Skoda was so confident about it that they didn’t feel the need to launch it in the petrol variant, which is quite gutsy considering the Indian market. If you want something rare, classy and performance-beauty, then this one is for you!

  • Isuzu MU-X

Launched in May 2017, this beast has two variants 4X2 & 4X4. Isuzu MU-X is a 7-seater vehicle with a huge 2999 cc engine which generates a power of 174 bhp at 3600 rpm. It has killer looks with sharp features. These are some of the best available features in the price range.

Speaking of which, the price range is moderate – 24 lakhs to 27 lakhs, but it would hurt your pocket in terms of mileage. The car provides a mileage of 13.8 km-pl which is way below compared to its competitors. But the car has electrically adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, and cruise controls. It has sharp features. If mileage doesn’t matter to you, it is quite a catch.

  • Jeep Compass

This one is, what we humans can call, ‘beauty with brains.’ We bet you don’t see this one too often on the road, maybe due to the price range (15.27 – 21.88 lakhs) but it’s totally worth it. This compact SUV features superb build quality and equally good performance. It has won many awards in just one year after its launch. It has 1368 cc engine, and it delivers a mileage of around 16 km-pl on its diesel variant. It has a 4-cyl multiplayer engine which generates a power of 160 bhp at 3750 rpm. So, if you are looking for a compact SUV, this is the one!

These were the five rare-class SUVs. We all know how good some of the most famous SUVs are doing on the road (they’re doing good). But then, aren’t you tired of seeing them everywhere? An SUV from the list above will make you stand out from the crowd. You won’t have to compromise with the performance (as mentioned earlier) and you would get a comparatively unique product too.
