Again, as every year, when the new year is rung in people let out a shout or a cheer.  There just seems to be something about a sound that heralds something new.  We should not be surprised by this.  God has used a sound to proclaim many new things.

The very first time God used a sound was ‘in the beginning’.  In the story of creation in Genesis 1, the phrase “and God said” is used 8 times.  Each time He said it, some new part of creation came into existence.  God used a sound to create everything that is.  At the battle of Jericho in Joshua 6, God used a sound made by the Israelites to bring down the walls of Jericho.

If we want to see a change in our lives or community, we too need to release a sound, not just a shout, but a sound from God.  We need to release songs and shouts of praise into the atmosphere.  As this is done, God will take that sound and cause a change.  Psalms 150 starts with “Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.” (KJV)  Finish reading that Psalm and it will become evident that God wants us to release a sound.
