I saw this clip on YouTube.  I am a huge fan of America’s Got Talent, Britain’s Got Talent, The Voice and other such shows only because they pull out they passion for the good in humanity.  I a world that is so obsessed with the negative, these shows focus on the so-called underdogs rising from their own proverbial ashes to victory….and we cheer them on (well, I do anyway in front of my TV or computer:).
So it is with this story.  It’s not just that Calysta Bevier was a survivor of cancer….it is the obstacles she had overcome at such a young age.  If you look close enough you can see it in her face….she’s a fighter….a warrior….a champion, not just a survivor.  Simon saw it.  So did many others. So did I.  It was recorded right there in her eyes.
In this life, we will all face many obstacles….it is how we choose to overcome those obstacles that speak to our character. Yes, granted there are some things that are terrible….I have experienced them in my own life, but the honest….the really honest truth is, most people don’t care. It’s not that they are mean or callus, it is just that they are too involved in their own life journey. You have to dig down….sometimes really deep to find the energy, the drive, the stamina to push yourself forward. The only one cheering you on for sure is God!  He is always there….trust me on that one, I know.  You have to have a personal relationship with Him to understand that….I’m not talking about going to church here, or the denomination you would belong to….I am talking about a personal relationship between you and God.  He will be right there beside you in everything you face in life….or you can choose to go it alone….that’s the choice He gives us.
As a street pastor in a downtown mission, I am faced with questions like these daily….”Where is God?” “Why does God let this happen to me.”  “Do I have to be religious or go to church before He will help you?”  God gives us free will to do, to follow, anything we want and some times there is a price for that choice we made and sometimes it had nothing to do with a choice at all.  Going to church doesn’t make you anymore religious or spiritual than owning a hammer doesn’t make you a carpenter.  We live in a fallen world that has mostly rejected God….once again!  He doesn’t let anything happen, but He is there in the mist of it all taking what was meant to harm us and turning it into good….maybe not as far as we can see, but in the big picture it is happening.
CHOICE: an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities.
“the choice between good and evil”
synonyms: optionalternative, possible course of action
God desires a personal relationship with us.  One on one, no one else.  He is accessible 24/7, 365 days per year and is as close as you want Him to be.  You just have to trust and believe and call on Him.
No matter what you are going through right now….at this very moment, call on God to give you the strength needed to get though the next…minute, hour, day, week….until you can raise your hand in victory….and if that victory doesn’t come here on earth…it certainly will in the Kingdom where your award awaits you.
Say this simple prayer….
Father, I am not sure what I believe.  I hear people talk about you like they know you. I find it confusing sometimes that there are so many different churches and denominations that claim to know you.  I am not really religious, but I think I believe in something.  I have had so many things happen in my life and if I am really honest, some of the stuff may have been due to my own poor choices.  God, would you reveal yourself to me in a way that makes sense to me…in a way that I can understand for me?  Tell me why I should believe in Jesus.  Guide my steps.  Teach me.  I don’t want to be religious because I have been so hurt by that kind of stuff in the past.  I kinda know there is something out there that is more than me.  Show me God….please.  I need more.  I need you.  Make me a champion.  I desire a relationship with you. Thanks God.
Keep pushing through and never give up….we are a light to others!
