We recently did a pet service visit for a client who was RVing from BC Vancouver to our fine city of Bakersfield, and she paid us with a personal check.  We had no idea that our bank - Bank of the Sierra - like many other banks, apparently, does not cash or deposit Canadian personal checks.

Some banks will take Canadian personal checks (or checques, if you are anywhere else in the world) if they have US FUNDS clearly designated on the checque - and some will not take it at all.

I was and am surprised at this - even though somewhere in my head I know that there is an exchange rate, I just figured that it would happen in the background like it does on Paypal.  So be warned small business owners, sole proprietors and freelancers...one more thing to be aware of, if you weren't already.
