A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir is so intense I don’t even really know how to review it without giving any spoilers. This book was incredibly powerful with plot twists that you cannot possibly expect and multiple viewpoints woven seamlessly together to show the consequences of character’s actions. No one can be trusted and the only choices left open are impossible ones. Tahir is a master at writing the characters into insane corners where it seems like there is no way out. The world building, while still inspired by ancient Rome with its brutal caste system, definitely added a lot more paranormal. The violence and action were almost frenetic at times, with plot twists that seemed impossible to predict. This book was a perfect, brilliantly done sequel to the first and is a must read.
