You've got to be carefully taught.

To hate a certain color

To avoid the mentally ill

To love the one who's "worthy"

To laugh by force of will

You've got to be carefully taught.

To argue with a stranger

Over things that only cause pain

to judge the ones less fortunate

To sculpt a look of disdain

You've got to be carefully taught.

That a body has a soul

Not the other way around

Or a beautiful person's worth

Is the number they aren't in pound

You've got to be carefully taught.

To say the right words

And think the right thoughts

Tell everyone else they're wrong

Thus avoid connecting the dots

You've got to be carefully taught.

To ridicule the religious

To publicly shame the abused

To cash in on a secret

And to kill the crushed and bruised

You've got to be carefully taught.
