Identifying Fertility Problems and getting it treated with medical help can help one conceive. It is not only the women but even men face fertility issues which can be corrected with medical help. It is important to know the reasons and seek help as soon as possible. Fertility issues in women Women with trouble conceiving or sustaining a pregnancy may be having Fertility Problems. Even after regular unprotected sex for more than a year for those below 35, and for six months for those over 35, if you face issues in conceiving then you should see a doctor. In Identifying Fertility Problems, Women have fertility issues due to a number of reasons: Ovulation problem - In this problem the eggs do not mature in the ovaries or the ovaries are not able to release a mature egg. This is called premature ovarian failure. The symptoms for this could be irregular or no periods, heavy or very light menstrual bleeding and lack of premenstrual symptoms like breast tenderness. Endometriosis - This occurs when the tissue that is found in the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus in the abdomen or pelvis. The possible symptoms could be painful periods, unusual spotting, heavy bleeding, pain in the pelvic region and painful intercourse. Egg quality - After women attain the age of 35, the quality and number of eggs that the ovaries produce decreases. This has no symptoms. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - Here the small follicles in the ovaries fail to develop into mature follicles that release eggs. This is caused due to an imbalance in hormones and ovulation patterns that are unpredictable. Excess hair growth, irregular periods, acne and obesity are its possible symptoms. Tubal factors - This occurs when the fallopian tubes get blocked preventing the sperms entering the egg and also preventing the fertilised egg from entering into the uterus. The reason for this could be sexually transmitted diseases and pelvic inflammatory diseases. Fertility issues in men Men face fertility issues because of genetic reasons that are passed down from the parent. The other causes of male infertility are as follows: Lifestyle choices and medical history - Smoking or taking illegal drugs, overweight, poor nutrition or a sexually transmitted infection are few of the reasons for men to have fertility concerns. Varicoceles - These are enlarged veins in the scrotum which raises the temperature in the testes thereby affecting sperm production. Scrotal pain is a common symptom of this problem. Ejaculation problem - A blockage in the ejaculatory duct prevents the sperm from getting into the ejaculate fluid. This happens when the organ that carries the sperm to the testicles or the tube that carries the sperm to the ejaculatory duct gets blocked. Retrograde ejaculation is when the semen enters the bladder instead of ejaculating from the penis. Low sperm count - Poor sperm or low sperm count does not allow the sperms to fertilize the partner’s egg. This could be due to a hormonal imbalance. There may however be some unexplained fertility issues in both men and women which is due to a difference in the way a person's reproductive system works. Lifestyle factors or a difference in the fertilization process could be the reason for this. Fertility drugs and IVF could be the solution for this problem.
