As resources that fill our lives with facilities, benefits, purpose and convenience- natural offering by our mother earth has been providing us happiness for several years now. While we explore their advantages and devise means to utilize them in the best possible way, they have been supporting us without any restrictions. By using them for our benefit, we have harnessed their existence and celebrated their presence. From water bodies that fill our lives with an important element to solar energy that shines its magic over us; from plants that spread greenery and freshness to fossil fuels that power our homes and cars, every natural resource showers us with unlimited benefits that last for a lifetime. Though we enjoy the long-lasting effects of these treasures all our lives, it is essential to realize the limitation of their exhaustible nature.

Conservation of these resources is the ideal solution for the future generations. If we value its presence and use them in a judicious manner, we can ensure sustained supply for our children tomorrow. While we cannot create the resources of water and fuel in our own backyard, we can certainly conserve and minimize their wastage in every possible way. Complete elimination of wastage is the only means by which we can offer our contribution towards the protection of these resources. Recycle, reuse and reduce are three useful tasks that can be performed with an aim to conserve natural elements.  Recycling paper and plastic, reusing old items in a new role and reducing generation of trash and some of the activities that can be started within the scope of our domestic front.

With interest towards conservation of resources and enthusiasm to explore novel ideas, I often hunt for ways to help the environment in my own little way. By reading, surfing, networking, discussing, I look around for ideas that can benefit our mother nature. Incorporating these aspects within the scope of my house proves to be my version of experiment, while I share and motivate those around me. Believing in the useful impact of simple steps that originate along the course of our daily routine, I consider it essential to introduce them for the long term goal of conservation. If each one of us can contribute in a small way, we can expect significant changes in the future.

What are these steps that can be started to preserve the nature for our next generation?

What practices in our daily schedule can offer the benefits of conservation?

While I enlist some of the tasks incorporated within my household, I hope they can offer some inspiration!

1.  Paper

  • Avoiding wastage of paper is a beneficial move to protect trees.
  • Opting for online receipts and tickets instead of the hard copies, preparing list of groceries on white board and capturing them on phone, writing on the blank side of papers, using wash clothes for cleaning instead of tissue rolls are some of the methods to conserve paper.
  • Drying hands in public restrooms with blow dryer can also prevent wastage of tissue papers.

2.   Plastic

  • Making use of reusable cloth bags or recyclable paper bags for groceries is a good way to eliminate dependence over plastic.
  • Using stainless steel and ceramic utensils over plastic plates, spoons and glasses can avoid usage of plastic.
  • Refilling stainless steel water bottles at workplace can replace plastic bottles; steel or glass bottles for storage of drinking water at home can eliminate use of plastic containers.

3.   Fossil Fuels, electricity and energy

  • Switching off lights and appliances when not in use is the most common habit that we must adopt.
  • Avoiding unnecessary overnight charging of phones, tablets, laptops and other electronic devices is a good practice.
  • As fossil fuels that give gasoline and diesel for vehicles are exhaustible and non-renewable, maximum use of public transportation and car pool options whenever possible can prove beneficial in the long run.
  • Installation of solar panels at home can lower the consumption of conventional electricity, saving it to a little extent.

Besides these, several changes in our daily lifestyle can contribute towards conservation of nature. By adopting simple changes in our routine journey, we can preserve the nature for our children.

Let us work towards a cleaner, greener and healthier environment for the future, after all our careful inputs today will turn into beneficial outputs tomorrow.
