So you want to learn how to find a penpal?

Let me start by saying I have been penpalling since 2010, and I am going to take you through the steps on how to get started. I started writing after I graduated high school if that tells you anything. Some people have the idea that penpalling is for kids in middle school, but I assure you, it is not!

There is a whole penpal world out there from the ages 5+! Even elderly people penpal! There are some people in their 40’s that have just started writing. You can write at any age. There is nothing stopping you! You can write to make a new friend, you can write to learn about different cultures, or you can even write just so each of you can swap gifts from each other's country.

I am going to refer  you back to a link, on how penpalling has to do with traveling→Old post. You don’t have to read this, but it may give you a little insight.

How to find penpals: There are all sorts of ways. You can create an ad on a penpal website or you can join some Facebook groups. The Websites I have signed up on are Interpals.net and also penpalsnow.com. There may be a lot of fishy ads on Penpalsnow.com, but this is where I first started.

To begin (and I assume it is similar on all websites) you create your account and then you create yourself a profile/ad if you choose to. This is so people who are interested in you can contact you. Now, you may have to create an account, but you don’t necessarily have to do your profile. But if you start reaching out to people, they may want to see that you are a real person.

It is a fairly easy set up on any site. There are search bars to find what you are looking for in a penpal or you can sit back and wait for someone to contact you. Unfortunately if you are a woman, you will probably be contacted by men. Even IF you state in your profile/ad you only want to be penpals with women. (Just ignore people who do not listen to your requests)

But I have a way you can get around the creepers and I believe it is A LOT safer! Join an all female penpal group on Facebook! This is the one I am in: Snail Mail Pen Pal Ladies Only. But if you want to write guys as well, because I am sure there are guys that want to genuinely write out there, there are penpal groups on FB that allow both sexes!

Everything is pretty straightforward to begin the process! Keep in mind these are not the only penpal websites out there, these are just the ones I have used to get started! If you have any questions feel free to contact me through my website or any of my social media sites! So what’s holding you back from making new friends across the world?? Let me know down below!
