I think I just had an epiphany:

On earth we have many choices. God, in all his wisdom, all his glory has given us free will. We are able to think however we want, do whatever we desire. On earth we can do as we please but in eternity, we don't have choices like these. In fact our choices are limited to two; Heaven or Hell.

How we live this life will determine whether or not we get to spend eternity with Christ.

Yoruba Proverbs says that Life on earth is like a market and heaven is our home.

God gave us only two choices. Choose His son, believe in him or Don't choose his Son. That is all eternity demands.

At first I thought it was unfair. Why only two choices? why do we need to choose Christ to go to Heaven and if we don't, we spend eternity away from God?

Immediately I felt myself being asked, why have a choice at all?

The bible says that the only way to God is through Christ. He is the way, the truth and he is life. He is the true vine and his father is the vine dresser. Without a connection to the vine how can we get to the Vine dresser. It's only through our connection with Christ, we get close to God. When we accept Christ, God through His spirit moves into the neighborhood of our lives.Seats down on the throne of our hearts and start to prune, cut away everything that doesn't look like him. The bible says that every branch that doesn't bear fruit, God cuts off and every branch that does bare fruit; he prunes so that it may bear more fruit.

When we don't choose Christ, we choose self. It becomes so easy for wolves dressed up as sheep to speak lies to our ears. Many of us fall in self-righteous thinking, we begin to believe that we know more than God (I am guilty of it.) We fall into legalism, believing that we are better at worshiping God because we follow the law, without realising that when we break the law we are punished by death. Yep, death is the result of trying to do things by your own self-righteousness.

On the other hand many people may want to believe that Christianity is not religion but relationship, still we have to all come to an understanding that being a believer of Jesus Christ comes with rules, commands. The bible says, if you love me, you will follow my commandments. Again it says; Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind. This is the greatest command: Love.

Every relationship has rules. It just doesn't make sense for you to get into a relationship without setting some basic rules like; no cheating, if i ever do anything to make you upset come and tell me. I don't want to have to hear about it outside, make sure you put the toilet seat down after you finish your business, my body is off limits.

We don't look at the 'Thou shall not's' because they have a way of making us depend on our own abilities instead of God's. We tend to forget that it is by Grace and not by works of the law that got us to this point. Grace given to us freely, no catch. no IOUs, none of that pay me back later things. The law was there at first to shackle us, keep us in chains. The bible says that it was a guardian, it told us what to do, how to do it and why we should do it. The law is like your mum telling you that curfew is at 7pm but you know that when you get that freedom and fly the nest, you come home whenever you like (letting off some steam here lol)

But since the death and resurrection of Christ, there is no need for a guardian. We are now able, as sons and daughters to fully step into our inheritance. We now have freedom to worship God without restriction. God's grace was poured out for us and his mercy never runs dry. It's important that we do not fall into legalism like the church in Galatians. They swapped the truth of God for a lie. The apostle Paul said that they started in the spirit but tried to finish in the flesh.

We have the holy spirit now, we have an advocate in heaven, a high Priest speaking on our behalf. Why go back and pick up the chains that bound us before? Yes, know that there are rules to follow when you choose Jesus but it so that we can have an opportunity to spend eternity with him. It is for our good and not for evil, for a hope and a future.

This is my epiphany, let me know in the comment section what you think. I could be wrong in most of what I said so please keep me informed. God bless you all.

Romans 6 :1,2

Should sin continue so Grace may abound? Of course not! How can we who have died in sin live in it any longer?
