There was a time when people use phones only for communication to make calls and text messaging. But with the passage of time, technology combined and the concept of the smartphone was born. This did not happen in the past few years, but it took a long time to transition from a basic cell phone to a smartphone.

Today we are using the latest smartphones which are equipped with 4th-generation technology that makes them a powerful minicomputer. Now we'll take a look at the brief history of a cell-phone to a smartphone which make our live much easier than before.

In 1995 mobile phones were huge and contained a long antenna. It is similar to today’s cordless phone. It seems odd to us now, but back then this cell phone was the trend in those days.
 

In 1996, there was little change in mobile phones which was about design and looks. Antennas were shortened and the designs modified; the features were also improved. Nokia 9000 was one of the most popular phone of that time.
 

In 1997, the antennas disappeared from the mobile phones. And mobile phones become handier and easy to carry out.
 

After antennas were removed from most of the mobile phones and In 1998, there were many phones available in different colors.
 

In 1999, mobile phones changed with the compressed look. Many features including colors, internal antenna and better graphics were introduced.
 

In 2000, the touchscreen phone came out which was based on the technology of IBM Simon phone; it's also referred as the first “smartphone,” though the term was not been coined at that time.

 

In 2001, it was the time the world’s first monochromatic display cell phone was introduced and with that, we said goodbye to the old and boring black and white phones.
 

In 2002, technology made another huge change in the history of mobile phones, putting a great full-color display and integrating camera to mobile phones, producing the world’s first camera cell phone. The Nokia 7650, features a great color display and a 0.3MP camera allowing you to snap pictures on the move.

2004 gave rise to one of the slimmest cell phones of the time, created by Motorola., with slim shape, dual screen, VGA Camera and lots of other exciting features.


In 2006, mobile phones were converted into a stylish gadget which became the symbol of social class and status.


In 2007, Apple Inc launched the Apple iPhone, which was the world’s first advanced touchscreen phone. It was the first phone to have an operating system, the iOS with apps to run on the phone. Later on, Google launched its operating system “Android”. That was the time when smartphone became the most attractive gadget for communication with internet surfing and google apps.
 

As the year passes technology improved and, different companies introduced their smartphone with Android operating system and By 2018 over a third of the world’s population is projected to own a smartphone.
 

Today, smartphones are taking the place of computers for the instance, google pixel 2 cell phone is such a device that can beat any computer in its speed and features it can do multitasking with powerful cameras to record daily life activities.
