I'm not sure what to say about this book.

This picture book was written and illustrated by Maxine Beneba Clarke. While I will freely admit that some of the illustrations were really creative; especially the ones using various mediums, overall I just didn't get this book.

I understand that this book is aimed at children but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a story to follow. Unfortunately this book didn't have a story just a message, and without the story to contain the message it just fell flat.

I love Maxine Beneba Clarke's novels so I may have gone into this book with too high a hope. I will say that Maxine Beneba Clarke did a great job with the illustrations in this book. The use of a mixed medium of textures mixed with the watercolours made for an interesting visual.

The illustrations alone could easily make this book a favourite for many children. For me though, this book was missing something and unfortunately it just didn't resonate with me.

Fashionista by Maxine Beneba Clarke is out now.
