It’s interesting to drive around town and see all the new houses being built.  Many of them are being built in places that no one would have thought of building a house 50 or even 25 years ago.  Our skill at building houses is getting better but there are still places that no one will build.  Even with the beauty of the riverside or the beach, I doubt anyone will ever build there.  The land is just not stable enough.  Even with our advanced skill, we still realize that houses need a firm foundation on which to be built.  If built near the river or on the sand of the beach, they would quickly wash away.

In Matthew 7:24 Jesus tells us, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”  Just as we would never build a house on sand, but instead on a strong foundation, we should build our lives on things that will give us a firm foundation.  If we use the teachings of Jesus as the foundation for our lives it is like building a house on a rock.  They both are firmly grounded and will provide safety and assurance in times of storm.
