In between coffee and on my way to work, there’s that bit of time when you get to breathe and reflect. As I turn deaf to the honking of horns in the perennial problem of traffic, the taxi driver listening to the never-ending news about the war on drugs, Marcos burial, elections etc. this quote spoke to me:

“I promise you, these storms are only trying to wash you clean”. Jessica Katoff

What does it really mean? Do these endless storms promise a better tomorrow?

Does it mean a stronger you if you endure the hit?

Will there be a rainbow in the end? Or will it be the same as all other storms? -  You are left with nothing but a broken home and broken heart.

Sayings like these are only as good as you interpret it and only as valuable as how you apply it.

I’d like to share with you some quotes that I read and some directly shared with me. I like these quotes as it is not typical; it’s honest and speaks from experience.

I truly am fortunate to have met the best people with the best intentions of bringing out the best version of me.

On Rumors:

“That’s all it is, rumors. Don’t give them power over you. Power over how you eat, how you sleep or how your day would go. Don’t give them that. You can’t control what they say, but you can control how you handle it”.

“You are accountable to God and so are they”.

“Blowing out someone else’s candle, will not make yours burn brighter”- Unknown

On Love

“Love is like staring directly into the sun and instead of blinding you it illuminates you” – Jason Silva

“But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the season less world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.” – Kahlil Gibran

“Do not fall in love with people like me. I will kiss you in every beautiful place, so that you can never go back to them without tasting me like blood in your mouth. I will destroy you in the most beautiful way possible. And when I leave, you will finally understand why storms are named after people”- Caitlyn Siehl

“Hate is not the opposite of love, it’s indifference”- Elie Wiesel

“I love you without knowing how, or when or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close”- Pablo Neruda

The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing – Blaise Pascal

On Self

“There are three things extremely hard; steel, a diamond and to know one’s self”- Benjamin Franklin

“Know your worth”

“I believe in the kind of love that doesn’t demand me to prove my worth and sit in anxiety. I crave natural connection, where my soul is able to recognize a feeling of home in another – Something free-flowing, something simple, something that allows me to be me without question” – Joey Palermo

On Deciding to Let go

When you realize that all He does is Get Back at YOU when you become tired and decide to let go…that’s your sign to keep moving forward, you don’t need someone who knows what hurts you yet hurt you anyway. Because when you truly love someone you will never hurt them. You deserve someone who fights all heavens to GET YOU BACK and if they are unsuccessful, be happy for you anyway. Care for you anyway. Love you anyway.

Make the pain he had caused worth it. Move on.

Love should not be the reason to tolerate disrespect

On Happiness

"The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves." – Victor Hugo

On Traveling

“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta

“Travel to fall in love with everything that surrounds you, and perhaps it will radiate within”

“I am not the same, having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world.” – Mary Anne Radmacher

On Jealousy

“No matter what you do He will do as he pleases. Tell him Once what hurts you, what makes you happy. That’s it. Don’t nag. He doesn’t need to be told 10 times. He will do what he wants, if he thinks of you and considers you then good.  If he doesn’t, your nagging will not lead to a better him. If someone cares for you, the person need not be told, he knows… he just knows.”

On Anger

“When angry, you will make the best speech you will ever regret” – Ulrich

“Instead of planning to retaliate… Pray for them. Pray that they find the meaning of true love and happiness. So that they can move on toward better things”

On Faith

“Close your eyes, open the Bible and believe me, He will speak to you”

On Work

“Stop when you’re tired.”

“I told my boss I will be absent even if he declines my leave. I want to be there when my husband opens his eyes after the operation. I can find another job, but not another husband that means the world to me”.

On Healing

“It’s so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone.” –John Steinbeck, The Winter of Our Discontent

“This TOO shall pass”

It’s going to be tomorrow…then another tomorrow and another tomorrow and I will forget and when that day comes I’ll be a better person, broken but better… and I’d take better over empty, any day.

On Loss

“Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim.”–Vicki Harrison

Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult-once we truly understand and accept it-then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters. -M.Scott Peck

On Family

“You don’t’ choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them” – Desmond Tutu

“The only rock I know that stays steady, the only institution I know that works, is the family”. Lee Iacocca

On Friends

"A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow."

― William Shakespeare

On Forgiving

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

“If you hate a person, then you’re defeated by them”- Confucius

On Dreams and Goals

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
― Eleanor Roosevelt

“When it is obvious that goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals but adjust the action steps. - Confucius

On Beauty

“Although beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, the feeling of being beautiful exists solely in the mind of the beheld.” Martha Beck

And my Quote since I learned how to read:

To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I heard the taxi driver calling me ,..  (thought bubble popped)… and I realized that it’s already my stop.

As you gain more experience, there are two things that remains true; 1. You cannot shut the world out regardless of the challenges it brings 2. You cannot ask the world to stop when you are hurt. You take it with you and cope with all its limitations. The key to this is seeing the good in everything, even in the most impossible situations. Every step is a learning process, everything that you have experienced, that was said to you will shape you. So in every decision you make, ensure it is towards long-term goals. Short term happiness is nothing but a sweet candy, you know it’s temporary.

Finally, Have faith in everything.

Nothing brings more excitement and joy than knowing that there is hope, that maybe this time it will be long term or maybe it will be forever. Forever exists. I know it, you know it, we all know it.
