I recently came back from England and while there I visited a few old castles, one was Roman and dated almost 2000 years old.  Needless to say, it was in a state of disrepair.  Over the years many castles and fortresses have been built and eventually they will all crumble and fall.  Now matter how diligently we keep and protect them, there will come a day when the fortress will no longer be there.  The same can be said for any building that man has made, eventually it will fall into disrepair and fall.

Psalms 71:3 says “Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.” (KJV)  The Hebrew word for ‘continually’ in this verse means to be constant and last for ever.  God will never fall.  No matter what happens, He will always be there as our fortress and refuge.  But for the fortress to be of any use we have to go there.  Next time you feel you need a safe place, run to to God and allow Him to be your perpetual fortress.
