My heart is beating rapidly…
As I stand next to her, gazing upon her…
Her stature tells me, she’s fearless.
She firmly grips her sword, ready to tear down her enemy.
As for me… In the moment, I only know anxiety…
I’m anxious because I don’t want anything to happen to her.
I want to shield her, cover her, protect her from everything…
They may outnumber us, but that doesn’t scare me…
I could destroy all of her enemies… or make them flee.
Two of us, standing against hundreds, upon hundreds…
Maybe thousands… they’re flooding our way…
Why so many enemies?
My mind is heavy with questioning, but I won’t ask anything…
I’m wondering, “Where did they come from, and why? Are they after her or me?”
Yet, nothing matters to me as much as her safety…
I don’t see how she’s nowhere near as tense as me…
She’s ready, she’s calm. She’s beautiful…
I stand in amazement as her hair is caught by the wind…
She never looked to me, once… She’s focused.
I can’t help but keep my eyes on her, though…
I’m struggling with the idea of losing her.
As our enemies draw closer, shaking the earth underneath their feet, my anxiety began to turn into courage… I was set on making sure she would not be harmed… No matter what.
I crack my neck and my knuckles, then I swirl my sword and ready myself.
I fix my eyes on the sea of enemies before us…
They looked like a sea of tar…
I could easily tell that they were not from this world.
This was a stampede of evil was coming towards us…
A horde of monsters with vile intentions.
They were not just coming to defeat her… they hungered for her soul.
They were seeking to devour her…
They raged and roared fiercely as they approached.
Their footsteps, altogether sound like thunder…
I was surprised that the earth didn’t crack under their feet as they galloped towards us.
I straighten up my back and I grab her hand…
She looked to me; eyes wide with wonder…
I pull her close to my side then step in front of her…
They were going to have to go through me to get to her.
I refuse to let this evil overcome her…
The presence of evil is so strong, I could smell it in the air… It’s foul.
But… if evil itself, can be defeated, this will be the day that it faces death and destruction.
Evil will experience regret… It shouldn’t have come after her.
Suddenly our enemies come to a halt.
They stand hundreds of feet away from us, swaying anxiously.
They groan with hunger, roar with pride and breath heavily…
I hear high growls and low ones.
I look over my shoulder to make sure she’s still behind me…. and she is.
Then she stands on her tip toes, looks over my shoulder and sees something I don’t see.
“They’re intimidated”, she told me.
I didn’t understand how that could be… But, they stood in one place.
I didn’t sense intimidation from them though…
Something else was going on that we couldn’t see.
Suddenly, the ground began to crumble under our feet… It was as I thought; a set up…
I quickly wrap her in my arms and sweep her off of her feet, cradling her as I run for safety.
Suddenly, the ground bursts open and my heels are gripped with hands that felt like fire…
I stumble forward and she rolls out of my arms… So much for keeping her safe from harm.
She quickly rises to her feet and runs over to help me, cutting the hands off of – our enemies.
Today… I’ve made her enemies mine.

To be continued…
