Getting back into writing This past week I took off from writing to prepare my novel for next month. You may or may not know but November is national novel writing month. A month to write 50,000 words in 30 days. To do this I need to write a minimum of 1,667 words PER day. Call me crazy, but I will do this. Now, I have to get back to writing every day. That’s going to be a treat. I’m up to 1,000 words a day, and after not writing, I don’t know how it’s going to work. I guess this is my way of getting back into writing. I’m easing my way into it if you will, which means I should probably make this post longer than 100 words. Anyway, so now, I have to figure out what to write about. Maybe, it will be about my search for story ideas. Most of the time, at least for my short stories, I go on Pinterest and type in writing prompts and see what is available that suits my fancy. For my first two novels, I actually had divine inspiration. In other words, I had dreams and thought they would make good stories. I guess you could say that my third novel was divine inspiration as well, and I was sitting in church when I came up with the conflict for it. This fourth novel is going to be different though. I am not going to wait for inspiration to strike. I’m going to work hard for it every day. Not that I didn’t work at the other ones, I just don’t think I was as committed. This upcoming novel is going to be not based on a dream or anything like that though. This time, I am using a short story that I already wrote, and I’m building off of that. It will also help, when I’m having writer’s block, that I have a good chunk of a day’s worth of words written. Call it cheating if you want, but I’m going with it. I also need to find the motivation to get started again. The last time I took one day off, I had a hard time writing the next day. And that was back when I only had to write 600 words a day. Now, I’ve taken a week off, and I’m up to 1,000 words. I do however; have an idea for a story thanks to my amazing husband. Now I just have to get going. Does anyone have any ideas for getting and staying motivated? I could really use some right about now. Well, I guess that’s about all I’ve got. I’m looking at my word count and it’s only at about 470, but I don’t really want to drag this out any longer than it has to be. So now I’m going to get started on my story, seeing as I’m about half way done with my words.
