This week many athletes will win medals at the Olympics.  I can only imagine the feelings they must have when they stand on the podium and the official puts that medal around their necks.  I’m sure those medals will be treasured for many years.

In a hundred years, after they are gone the medals will have no meaning at all.  It may have even been discarded by then.  It’s no where near the same scale, but I have trophies I won as a teenager.  There were the most important things in the world to me when I won them and now I don’t even have most of them.  The importance wanes, the glory fades and the trophies become less important.

The first part of Philippians 3:8 says, “Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” (NLT)  Knowing Jesus is of more value than any trophy I have ever won or any item I have ever owned.  The only thing that has value is knowing Jesus.  Everything else will eventually fade.  What is it that you value?  Make sure you value the thing that is eternal, Jesus.
