Heal the Sick Like 0 Twitter Ray Richards Follow Nov. 14, 2016, 6:14 p.m. in Religion Views: 813 Like us on facebook In Luke 9:1 and 2 we are told that “he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.” (KJV) The word disciple simply means a learner or a pupil. I consider myself a learner of Jesus so this verse applies to me also. He has given me the same power that He gave the original 12. Notice He didn’t just tell them to go and heal people, He told them to preach the kingdom of God. If a person is healed but never comes to understand the kingdom of God and the power within it to save a person from their sins, they will eventually be lost and spend eternity absent from God. Farther along, in verse 6, it says, “And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.” (KJV) If I am a disciple, or pupil of Jesus today, then I should be doing the same thing. I should be going different places preaching the gospel and seeing people healed as part of my everyday life.
