“For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:24-25‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Quoting Isaiah 40:6-8, Peter reminds believers that everything in this life—possessions, accomplishments, people—will eventually fade away and disappear. Only God’s will, word, and work are permanent. We must stop grasping the temporary and begin focusing our time, money, and energy on the permanent: the Word of God and our eternal life in Christ. (Tyndal Study Bible)
Isaiah 40:6-8New Living Translation (NLT)
6 A voice said, “Shout!”
I asked, “What should I shout?”
“Shout that people are like the grass.
    Their beauty fades as quickly
as the flowers in a field.
7 The grass withers and the flowers fade
beneath the breath of the Lord.
And so it is with people.
8 The grass withers and the flowers fade,
but the word of our God stands forever.”
Take the time and read Isaiah. Peter is quoting it because in human understanding the only constant thing in the World is the promises of God. Peter is writing, in this chapter, about Holy Living and inviting us to salvation. The promise is that if saved, you receive the gift of eternal life. What Peter is trying to illustrate is that only with God things are lasting and constant.
Consider this between the books of Isaiah and Peter there are roughly 800 years. During that time, Jesus was born. The lesson and principle are still the same another 2000 years later. You see the point.
Consider how quickly society has developed over the last while. The Bible God's Word and Teaching is still the same. Bibles on your phone, Wow.
So the question or teaching is what? Firstly we should listen to the Word that is preached to us. And further that everything in this fast paced world will amount to nothing without God. Everything around us will change, but God's Will and Word will never change. The only constant and permanent thing in our worlds is God.
"Lord, I thank you for wisdom and insight. Amen."
