My face is at war.

Growing up, I'd always had clear skin, even as a teenager -- a blessing, really.

But once I turned 20, my face decided to go all crazy on me.  My skin was like "HAHA, you thought you'd never have acne?  Joke's on you, sista!"

Seriously! All of the sudden I wasn't a teenager anymore and my skin was like BAM!  Hello, breakouts.

Anyways, I'm very hippy-dippy in the sense that I like all-natural products.  If I don't know how to pronounce it, I don't want it on or in my body.  No freaky chemicals for me, please and thank you.

Plus, by creating my own face masks, I was able to save a few bucks (and withhold from supporting large corporations like CVS, yay!)

It's also hard to tell which cosmetics are tested on animals (which is something I DO NOT support), so why not just make my own? With that being said, I decided to experiment with face masks using household products and ingredients.

And don't worry, I did my research on the google machine -- and these masks worked well for me and my face.

Without further ado, here are 3 of my favorite DIY facemasks that will help with that facial problem of yours (if you have one)!

  1.  Avocado + Honey

    1. Why? Avocado acts as a moisturizer with its high fat content, and honey has antioxidants and anti-bacterial properties.
    2. This mask will: Unclog your pores, help prevent acne, and give you a natural glow.
    3. How to: Mash up 1 avocado with 1 TBSP of honey (local honey will work best!). Apply to face, leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off with water.

  1. Oatmeal + Tea Tree Oil

    1. Why?  Oats have anti-inflamatory and exfoliating properties, lemon juice has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, and tea tree oil acts as a toner.
    2. This mask will: Help treat acne, smooth, and soothe your skin.
    3. How to: Grind 2 TBSP dry oats (use a blender), then mix with 2 TBSP local honey, 4 drops tea tree oil, and a squeeze of lemon juice.  Apply to face, leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off with water.
  2. Apple Cider Vinegar + Sugar

    1. Why? Apple cider vinegar unclogs your pores and treats blemishes, green tea has loads of antioxidants, and sugar helps clear your pores and erase blackheads.
    2. This mask will: Unclog your pores and treat already existing blemishes.
    3. How to: Mix together 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar with 2 tsp of COOLED green tea, 2 TBSP sugar, and 1 TBSP local honey.  Apply with a cotton ball, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with water.

Other things I like for my face:

Before moisturizing, I like to dab on some apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, or witchhazel.  I've found these products work great for my skin.
