It’s very difficult for us people to be happy with who we are or what we have. We always want more and when we have achieved what we wanted we still want more. It’s in human nature to always crave for more. We always set new goals and are always thinking about how far we are from our goal that we feel pressured by it. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that you shouldn’t set goals, of course you should. It’s very good to set goals in life and work hard to reach your goal. But don’t feel pressured by it so much that you forget to enjoy life itself. Here are some tips that have worked for me to be happier in life.

Cherish the little things in life

People say that happiness can be found in the little things and they are right. Little things in your life is what makes you happy. Imagine if those little things that happen in your life weren’t there anymore, would you miss it? I bet you would, for example your mother who is  always caring for you. Your friends who call you just to ask how you are doing or if you reached home safely, sitting in the park and seeing children jumping around and laughing. But because you are too concentrated on your bigger goals you forget about the happiness that can be found in these little things.


Be content
As I said it’s very difficult to be happy with what is already there. But think about what you have already achieved in life. Think about the people who are in a worse situation than you are. If it’s something that is really bothering you, try to talk with someone about it, someone you trust. You will be surprised how much better you will afterwards. Be happy with what you already have and try your best to be better everyday. But don’t get discouraged or sad when something doesn’t work out the way you wanted it to be. Just remember that you have a lot of things to be thankful for and happiness will come your way.

Positive energy
Another important thing is positivity. When you have a positive attitude, you will radiate positive energy. And you will give your positivity to the people around you. You will feel more alive. Don’t always complain about everything, I know this is very difficult to do but try to see the positive aspect in everything. Because everything that happens, happens for the best. You don’t know the reason behind it. When you are positive you will also attract positive people and things which means positive things will happen to people who have a positive view in life.

Make time for the people around you
It’s very important to spend time with the people you love. Make time for your parents and siblings. Do something nice for them once in a while and make them feel loved. Spend time with your friends talking or watching a movie. When you invest time in the people you love, you will feel very good after. And you will have a lot of memories. Don’t forget the people around you. Contact some friends you have lost contact with and catch up with them, relive the memories you had with them and laugh until you start crying.

Try to do something good everyday
I am not saying to volunteer your whole summer, which is very good if you had plans to do this. But try doing small things for people. For example helping you neighbour carrying their heavy bags to their house, donating some money to the people who need it, giving away clothes you don’t wear anymore or helping an old woman cross the street. These are all examples of small things you do for people that they will really appreciate. After doing something like this you will feel very good about yourself and you have achieved more happiness than buying that new bag or pair of shoes.

Have some ME time
Having some time for yourself is necessary. You can just forget everything for a while and just be with yourself in peace. Take a long shower and pamper yourself. Think about who you are and what you have become and how you have become who you are. Just relax and find your inner self. After a lot of stress me time is very necessary so you don’t break down. After having your time for yourself you are all charged up and ready again for the next chapter of your life. 

So to be happy you should set goals and work hard to reach them but still enjoy the little things in life. If you have reached the point in life where you can be happy about the little things that is when you have found the essence of happiness and you can share your happiness with other people to motivate them to become as happy as you are.
