How to create a free blog-site with WordPress:

To install WordPress, you have to do the following things:

  • Sign up for the web hosting service. Here I recommend you Bluehost
  • Select the hosting plan, try to opt for the cheapest one
  • Choose a domain name
  • Complete hosting registration for your blog
  • Install WordPress
  • Then login and write your blog post

1. Install WordPress with a One-click installation:

  • Login to the Bluehost control Panel
  • If you are logged in, then you will be directed to the control panel where you select “Install WordPress”
  • This will lead you to the next page. From there you can select your blog destination URL. Here, my suggestion will be employing your root domain.

2. Log in to your new blog:

Now you have an empty WordPress site installed together with your password and username.

  • Start to type in your new web address so as to see how would your WordPress blog look like
  • Next, login to your admin panel
  • Once logged in, you will able to witness the welcome page of your admin panel, which must be fairly intuitive. All your major options will be situated in the sidebar panel.

3. Personalizing and selecting a blog theme:

Once you get into Wordpress dashboard, you may start personalizing your blog. You must get to know the look & items in the admin menu of your WordPress. Let us see some of the different menu items in your admin:

  • Dashboard - This will be the first page, you see after logging in
  • Media - This will be your media library, which has all the images, videos, PFD, etc you have uploaded
  • Posts – Here you will be to write and publish blog posts newly and view and edit some older ones too
  • Links – Better, you will skip it as many blogs won’t use this anytime
  • Pages – Just like posts, you can write and publish pages newly here
  • Comments - Readers will leave their comments here when you have published your posts
  • Appearance - To change how your blog would look like
  • Plugins – To add or remove plugins for the purpose of adding functionality to your blog
  • Users – Add users by creating content with others, so that they could edit posts. If you are not interested, you will skip this
  • Tools – make use of some additional tools to publish your posts
  • Setting – To edit your blog setting

4. Select a free theme:

I think that selecting themes for your new WordPress blog is always fun

The best things are:

  • You can perform all by your own
  • You will make your blog look first class by using free WordPress themes
  • You can also change it later, but don’t change it often as your readers may not able to keep up

When it comes to WordPress themes, what to look for:

  • Simplicity
  • Speed
  • Responsiveness
  • Ease of customization
  • Security
  • SEO readiness

Consider these factors while selecting a theme, yet most importantly, choose something that you love and make your readers see.

5. Adding posts & pages:

Now, you have set up all with WordPress. Then it’s the time to make your first blog posts.

Get back to your admin panel and then, move to “Posts” >> “Add New”

Now you will see a friendly editor screen where you will get

  • Title area: To include title of your posts
  • Content area: To include body text of your blog post. You can also include image or other media too, using “Add Media” button
  • Standard Editing tools: Get options like Italic, Bold, Paragraphs, lists and headlines
  • Publishing tools: To make your posts exposed to the world
  • Adding Fine tuning tools: To update and categorize your blog post

Here are some things to be considered:

  • Add links to your posts
  • Add images to your posts
  • Add videos from You Tube to spice up your posts
  • Create the slug, which is nothing but URL of your posts. It should target SEO keywords, avoid duplicates and don’t change after publishing, since this may result in traffic loss.
  • Add headings to help you in structuring your content

6. Publish your posts:

If you are completed working with your posts, then click “Publish” button. Want to see your posts live on site? Well, click “View post” link, which is going to be appearing at the page top.

Congratulations! Now you have published your very first blog post. But before sharing it with others, try to include a simple tracking system on your site to see other’s reactions.
