Business and product success now involve the application and use of social media.

If you want to make it big in any industry, you have to know how to use some form of social media effectively.

Create and Establish Your Brand

Whether you are an entrepreneur or an employee working for another company - branding is key.

To create a brand means to, "create a name, symbol or design that identifies and differentiates a product from other products."

You want to create a brand that gets you or a product noticed in a great way.

For example, if you want to market yourself as a big time personal trainer, promoting and supporting fast food restaurants does not go with your brand. You must make a conscious effort to showcase your brand in the best light possible, so that when people look you up, or look up that which is associated to you, the first impression they get is what you want.

Creating a brand is the most crucial part of any social media marketing plan. It establishes your foundation and builds the base for promotion.

Social media tools that aid in creating a brand:

1. "Create a Page" on Facebook

2. Create a personal brand website

3. Set up a LinkedIn profile

Promote Your Brand

Once you have your brand created and well established, your next step is to promote your brand.

If you are your brand, you can promote yourself using social media in a very effective way. If you are promoting goods and services, using various social media platforms are a good way to promote as well.

The goal to promoting your brand is to expand your network to a larger audience to meet your personal business and financial goals. It is very important to know exactly what you are promoting, and to know  which target audience group you are promoting to.

If you wish to become a big makeup guru on YouTube, you must create and promote great content for the YouTube makeup community. If you wish to open up your own chain of Chinese bakeries, you must create and promote your baked goods to the Chinese bakery community.

Using media like pictures and video help attract visitors to your brand. You want to make sure that your content and visuals are appropriate for what you are marketing and are value-based. Meaningless text and images do nothing for your brand, so make everything count!

Social media platforms to use for promotion:

1. Twitter

2. YouTube

3. Vine

4. Instagram

5. Share content using Google Plus communities and Pinterest

Engage with Your Audience

In the social media world, promotion is nothing without audience engagement.

Those who you are marketing to want to feel like they know you. Consumers only want to buy products from companies they know and love. If the audience you are promoting to does not feel like they know you or your brand well enough, they may not support you in the way you had hoped.

This means that using social media is a two-way street. You push out content and/or products to your audience, and your audience pushes out feedback to you.

To be engaged with your audience means to encourage people to comment, reply, and send you their opinions. Even if someone's opinion is not constructive, your job is to not take anything personal.  Use that which is fruitful, and disregard that which is not. Word-of-mouth is a powerful promotion tool, so always promote positivity in whatever discussions you engage in.

Social media tools to use for audience engagement:

1. Encourage your audience to leave you feedback in comment sections

2. Set up a brand email; Respond to emails

3. Use Twitter for replying, re-tweets, and gaining followers

4. Encourage audience to share your content and/or like

5. Encourage audience to follow your social media/or subscribe

6. Create a public Snapchat account for audience to follow you
