About two days ago I decided that I wanted to do a little bit of a social experiment with myself. For the past year or so there has been this fad going on with Roasting people. Now, if you don’t know what roasting people is, let me just give you a little bit of insight.

Reddit, how would you describe Reddit? Some people would say it’s the greatest site on the internet, some would describe it as the trashiest site on the Internet, it’s really all up to opinion. Anyways, there are about five to six roast me pages on Reddit, and I decided to post my picture on the most popular one with a little more than 8,000 followers to see what kind of response I would get.

Now, I went into this thinking people would be original in their Roasting of me. I was hoping they wouldn’t point out the most obvious thing, and just stick with it, but boy oh boy was I wrong. All people could talk about was my weight. Now, I totally understand that it really shouldn’t be too surprising I’m a big girl, and with how today’s society is working people are either accepting of people being fat or they hate on them. It’s a hit or miss situation. Now, you are probably thinking, well what kind of things would they say to you?

“No amount of odd camera angles could fit all of you in one picture.” -Zapinsure

“If you lost 100lbs you’d look like you only need to lose

 100lbs to be almost skinny!”-1CreepyChomo

“Lay off with the fat jokes guys the camera adds ten pounds, there’s just forty cameras on her.” – BenjyDoverman

These, are nasty things, and I have to question why would someone say this to any human being? These are derogatory, mean, hurtful things. The thing is, if I saw any of these people in person and asked them to Roast Me. Would they say these things to my face? Probably not. They wouldn’t have the guts to do it. I posted on Facebook that I was being Roasted and that people were just commenting on my weight, and several people were like, “Why would you do that to yourself?” Well, here’s my theory behind why people want to be Roasted, and why it has turned into such a huge fad.

We all know want to know what people really think about us right? I mean deep down inside we all really have that little bit of a fear inside of us that is like are they talking behind my back? Do I look fat in this? Am I too skinny? Is my nose too big? Is my forehead to wide? We nitpick at our bodies. Society has made us that way, there is no perfect body. It’s impossible.

People want to be Roasted because they want to know what people actually think about them. Seriously. When I originally went on there, I assumed people would nitpick at me and make some stupid funny comments at me, but in reality I wanted to know what people really thought about me. In reality though, they all thought the same thing that everyone has always thought about me. I’m Fat, which is cool, because you know I am. That is a thing, but people will post pictures and they will have zits on their face, and people will say things like “Ew, it looks like you have Bacteria growing on your face.” Just nasty things.

So, People want to know what people really think of them so they decide to be roasted. They have decided to find their worth in what other people think of them. Their opinions matter to them greatly. Where should there worth come from though? Are you following me? I’ll give you a hint. It starts with G and it ends with D. God. We as people need to find our worth in God. I know how hard it is to live in a society where we are expected to look a certain way and dress a certain way, and act a certain way, but here’s the thing. We serve a God who loves us, and cares for us more than words can describe. He formed you in your mother’s womb, he knows the number of hairs on your head. It’s so beautiful. So instead of finding favor in people find favor with God because he is really the only thing that can bring you happiness in your life.
