I find infomercials on TV oddly interesting.  Their job is to make me think I need the item they are selling.   I’m not sure I have ever seen an item that I truly need.  But they have convinced me on some occasions to want an item.  Luckily, I realize it is only a passing want I can comfortably live out my life without owning one.

In our North American society many people seem to go through life wanting one material thing after another; the latest fashions, a newer car, a larger house.  The desires just seem to get larger and more outlandish.  If we constantly set our minds on material things we will always be disappointed in that they will never lead us to eternal contentment.

In Colossians 3:2 we are told to “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (KJV)  We should constantly be thinking about heavenly, or Godly things, as opposed to the things that the earthly.  Our desires and dreams should be to find ways to get closer to God.  All of our earthly things will eventually perish, but heavenly things last forever.
