Now a days Aluminum foil is extensively used in kitchen for cooking of number of foods & in food industries for packaging purpose. The use of aluminum foil is safe or not became a lot confusing topic for researches. you can find different approaches of different researchers. so here is something i found from research work of Jean Harry, Ph.D., a toxicologist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences & may be the answer.

According to research when aluminum foil is used in cold food (No heating), there is no leaching observed of aluminum into the food. They also did not find a difference if the shiny or dull side were in contact with food. so basically the use of aluminum foil in cold foods is safe.

But when we look at other side in which food wrapped in aluminum foil is subjected to the heating, the leaching is possible into the food & it accumulates in to the body after a long use.

One concern has been that foil use might contribute to the buildup of aluminum found in the brains of some Alzheimer's patients. "Aluminum has neurotoxic properties, but no direct link to human neurodegenerative disease has been established," says Jean Harry, Ph.D., a toxicologist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

What’s more, Dr. Zubaidy, one another researcher, comments that:

“The higher the temperature, the more the leaching. Foil is not suitable for cooking and is not suitable for using with vegetables like tomatoes, citrus juice or spices.”

So before next time use Aluminum foil in kitchen, consider below given precautions, such as

1. Avoid heating, cooking food wrapped into Al foil or even do not place hot food on aluminum foil.don't use aluminum pots in cooking, instead of it try stainless steel pots.

2.Use foil only to store cold food in the refrigerator, or to wrap cold sandwiches. you can also use glass or plastic containers available in different sizes & you can easily find in markets.

3. Never store citrus fruits such as tomatoes or spices in foil.

4.You can replace aluminum foils with butter paper or wax paper if you wish to store food while still hot. Or use glass food storage containers.

So It's possible to maintain cooking & storage of food without use of aluminum foils.
